Heck With It!!!

So I've looked everywhere, posted for answers on here, emailed a few people on here, and talked to many wheel dealers to find out what aftermarket 16" wheels will work on my 3" lifted 2007 Toyota Tacoma 4wd...and....NOTHING! All I get from the dealers is "None will fit" and I havent gotten any feedback from people on here so ive decided to buy the only rims I've been able to get a guarantee will fit my taco. The Wheeler's Black Steelies. I'm going to run 285/75/16 BFG KM2's on them.

My question now is for the people that have these....

How do you like them? Any problems?
Any substantial loss of HP or MPG by using these heavier wheels?
Anyone have pics of these on your trucks?

I have them. i love em but i sanded them(scuffed them up will fine grit) and painted them hammered black. i wasnt a fan of the gloss black. its in my build on page 5.

Heavier wheels are not going to hurt you enough to bring your mileage down. hell i put rhino liner on my whole exterior and didnt see a mileage drop and i always calculate mpg everytime i fill up. the wieght of the lining was equal to having a buddy in the passenger seat weighing 150-180. the size of your tires is whats going to get you on mpg. not the added weight of having steelies. think about it. how much difference in weight will the steelies add(remeber to subtract the orignal rims weight). when someone rides in your truck do you notice a loss in mpg?

if you want 16's then you are choosing the only route i know of. i looked all over myself and this is just the way you must go. i think i have heard talk of someone that makes one but i cant specifically remember. iether way you would be limited to likeing what they have cuz its the only thing out there



Edit: trust me you will like them and when one gets messed up it is cheap as hell to replace. rims jsut cost too much!

 

Thank you for the info! I appreciate you taking some time to help me out. Thats a good idea about repainting them in Hammered Black and your rig kicks ass dude..that takes some ballz to do but it turned out GREAT!....I might do the same at some point to my rims...

Thanks for the info on MPG...I was just wondering about it since a guy on a different site was bitching about how heavy they were...

Did you get Type A or B? Im thinking A is the right one for me but I'm not really sure.
Are you still using your Spacers with those rims?

You think there would be someone somewhere that would make a list of the 16" wheels that fit our type of trucks...I seem to see alot of people asking the same question in the forums but noone has any answers... Thanks again!

Those are your choices and you are going to want the type B. the lower the number on backspacing the better.

Edit: Hey sorry but forgot to reply regarding the spacers. yes i stll have them on. i dont really need them but i like the look. the only problem i have is the cab mounts but who doesnt right? theres a mod for it an di will be doing it eventually. noone answers because there really isnt a rim our there for us. they all give up and go 17 if there is one out there it is not on a Taco and they dont know what they got! if someone would start making good looking rims with enough room to clear our calipers he could make a killing.

As far as I know rotational mass is different than just mass of the truck.

 

mine are 265's.
with the positive offset your pushing the wheel into the well, no? doesnt positive spacing bring the lugs closer to the road?
so then running a wider tire with the wheel pushed into the well a little bit more, would you run the risk of rubbing the tire with say the uca's or anything?

 

well heres the deal. rotational mass...understand, however i still dont think it is enough weight to make a diff. i was only trying to make an example.

as for the backspacing...as i said i dont even need the spacers. thought i would at the beginning but then learning occured. there is plenty of room. i also have a 12 inch wide tire and his will be 11.22 inches wide. he would probably be just fine with the 4.5 however someday he may want wider tires and stay with a 16inch rim.both cost the same why not get it now.

umm by more positive are you meaning psotive being a higher number or positive being more space to work with? because 4.5" BS has less room for a tire than 4" BS.

 

true. For everyday driving I doubt it's very noticeable.

 

backspacing is measure form th einner edge of the rim to the hub....so little numbers keep your tire farther away from the vehicle andcloser to the road

 

Finally some discussion! Love the feedback guys.....Now excuse my noobness but let me throw what I've pieced together from reading the forums at ya and please correct me if I'm wrong since I probably am haha...

I will need at least 4.5" backspacing to push the 285's away from my UCA (why my stock rims wont work) but too much backspacing will cause my tire to have a larger turning radius inside the wheelwell and it will hit the body mount right? This is the only reason I thought 4.5" was correct but I would love the 4" if they dont hit mody mount since I like a wider stance on my truck also...

Haha Im not worried about weight since up here in Northern Michigan its -2 and with the amount of snow we get almost daily I need to have 4 sandbags over my wheelwells just to keep the ass end on the road anyways!

 

I have 16x8 Enduros and they fit fine...tight but fine. 0 Offset and 4.5 Backspacing...whoever told you 16 rims don't fit our truck go tell them to pound sand.

 

at some point in the turning of your wheel whether you have 4.5 or 4 BS you will hit the cab mounts. maybe not while riding on the pavement but when offroading it will happen so there is no win win. your turning radius is always the same. BS is not going to change the diameter of your wheel set up just how far it sticks out.

If you were turning the steering wheel all the way to the left your tire would be pointing out to the left but the rear side of the driver's tire is shoved into the wheelwell. now look at your tire and decide how much room you have to move to the left to miss the cab mount. backspacing may not give you enough to miss it but even if it did then what about when youre in mid turn? at some point your tire is going to be infront of the cab mount and when you go to a 33" tire you are bound to bump it here and there depending on your lift setup and how hard you stuff the tire
