I'm not a reader but I figured I'd give it a shot and pick up a book. Problem is I can't find a book I'm interested in. I like mystery, history, and thrills. I found a book called "Ghosts of War" and it looks good. Any others you guys can recommend?

You want some funny reading, pick up one of Tim Dorseys books. He is a local author to you right there in Tampa.

He uses the same characters in all his books.

    Just hilarious reading.

Chet & Bernie Series By Spencer Quinn

It's mystery series where Chet is the narrator. He also happens to be a Dog. I'm not into mystery but the series makes me laugh. If you have a dog you'll identify with so many things that Chet says.

W.E.B. Griffin's Brotherhood of War and The Corp's series are two of my favorites. They deal primarily with WWII in the Army and the Marines respectively.

Peter Hathaway Capstick also wrote some fantastic books on Safari Hunting in Africa. Death in the Long Grass is the one to start with. If that subject interests you, also try Horn of the Hunter by Robert Ruark. The same author also wrote The Old Man and The Boy, as good a book as has ever been written.

I was always a Lord of the Rings fan. If you like that sort of thing, Robert Jordan wrote a great series called The Wheel of Time series. The books spanned nearly twenty years and had to be finished by another author, as RJ died with a couple left to go.

I just read Slaughterhouse 5 this weekend. Awesome book. I did not realize the enormity of Dresden. If I had to pick an all time favorite it would be East of Eden. I also am a Hemingway fan. For Whom the Bell Tolls and others. I could go on forever. Oh, if you like history also consider Winds of War.

Many great suggestions, but I worry they some may be a bit heavy for a new reader.

Agreed, many of the others I wouldn't either, but to a novice reader, they would be sleeping medicine.

Everybody's but mine anyway. I feel like such an intellectual lightweight after comparing my list to everyone else's. Yikes. Oh well, I guess Forest Gump went to college too. Lol

Wind of war is an awesome book, but I just don't see someone who reads infrequently, being able to enjoy it, let alone finish it.
