Seriously, what would you do if your brand new truck went into limp mode, or became totally disabled? This should be treated the same way!

Try playing around with your fuel cap. Take it off and put it back on allowing for one click I believe. Drive for a few miles and see if to goes away. If it stays on I can't see any good reason someone would not take it in and have it checked.

Can't believe no one mentioned trying this.

When a CEL appears, you should immediately drive to the nearest auto parts store (e.g., AutoZone, AdvancedAuto, PepBoys, NAPA, etc.) to borrow a code reader. It doesn't cost you anything here to pull the DTC; they may just ask to hold your license while you bring the scanner out, or they'll do it for you. Go ahead and tighten the gas cap before going directly there, but I wouldn't waste any time driving with a CEL without knowing exactly what's causing it.

Can't diagnose anything without the code being read but a steady light not flashing and the truck runs fine, no need to pull the chicken switches and park the truck, just get it diagnosed when the dealer is open and learn to pull the codes yourself in the future.

A decent code reader is a good investment. I've used it to diagnose a loose gas cap, bad spark plug, bad O2 sensor all before needing to take it to the dealer to find out the same thing.

Man and people around here say "don't buy a dodge, you'll be headed to the dealer for service early and often"... Is my 2016 Tacoma a Dodge with Toyota badges?

    Guys,

I wanted to close the loop on my problems. The diff howling, rumble strip feeling, and all of my other issues were caused by the gas cap not being tight.

    Thanks,

Tired of wasting my time at a dealer and without a vehicle. They still haven't told me what loaner I'll be getting but I need a truck by Friday

I had a Duralast gas cap light up the CEL and the Track Off light was intermittent. I think the trouble code was P0455.

Unless you made a mod you maybe shouldn't have, take it to the stealreship. If it's a loose fuel filler cap, disconnecting the neg batt post may take care of clearing the code. If the cap is defective, it needs to be replaced. If it's something else, it will be back till fixed.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers!
