When towing with an 80 series Land Cruiser, do you measure your fuel economy in gallons per mile or gallons per minute? But seriously, nice ride. That's got to be one of the best colors Toyota put on a 4x4 truck.

Fuel economy doesn't change that much when I tow. It goes from bad to a little more bad.
Seriously when the truck isn't loaded I can squeeze out 14 mpg. Most of the time I get 13 mpg and towing is more like 11-12mpg.
These trucks never were great on fuel. But they more than make up for that in other ways.

I worked on a bit of body work yesterday. The hood on the cruiser was in rough shape. The clearcoat was pitted and flaking all over it. This was one of the reasons I blacked out the center section, to cover the worst of the peeling. But the sides of the hood were also bad so I sanded them down and repainted them. I had some 1A6 color mixed up and put into rattle cans. I did a primer, base coat and clearcoat. Turned out pretty good for being rattle canned, and the color match was quite good.

Between this and your fenders you did on your tacoma you are inspiring people to DIY and put the paint shops out of business. Nice work! I need to come take lessons some time.

Thanks Zach! Stuff like this or the fenders aren't too bad because they aren't very large areas. If you needed to spray large areas, I think you'd definitely want an HPLV spray gun. But even with one of those it's not too tough with a little practice. As they say, it's all in the prep work. :)

Hopefully things get a little less crazy for you soon. My BIL is still badly wanting a rack for his 100 series. I guess being busy is a good thing, but hopefully this can come off the back burner soon.

Things are starting to get under control. The 100 series has been at the top of my list for awhile. Text me his number once more and I will make sure to get in touch with him soon.

Are you doing any sanding or buffing between coats? It amazing how this looks in the pictures. Does it look the same in person?

No wet sanding or buffing. Just sanded the surface prior to painting, then sprayed 1 coat of primer, wiped it with a tack cloth, sprayed the base coat, wiped again with tack cloth and then sprayed the clear. That's it.

it's most definitely NOT show quality but it turned out really nice especially for rattlecan.

Thanks but I wouldn't say it came together "effortlessly". There has been a lot of work, money and bloody knuckles to get it here. :)

Took the day on Friday to go explore with my BIL and my 80 and his LX470. Had great time exploring the Uintah Mountains and we were able to connect a route from Kamas, Ut to Spanish Fork Canyon. Beautiful day.

near the end of the route I dropped the 80 into a hole that turned out to be deeper and softer than it appeared and swallowed the driverside. The drop in was a vertical ledge about 3' high and the rear bumper was hung up. Between the rear bumper being hung up (keeping the rear tire from touching the ground) and the slippery clay in the hole, I wasn't able to drive out immediately. So a used the COMEUP winch to pull the truck about 12" to free the rear bumper and then was able to drive out on my own. Fun little challenge.
