For night, high ISO, fast lens. A good tripod. To light stuff on long exposures, you can light paint with a big ass flashlight (or a small one that's bright). Lighting with a flashlight takes some practice and as I've mentioned before, LED is typically a cold light so think about incandescent or gels to better match the surrounding light (i.e. star light).

A few funny ones. Red squirrels are fearless. These are just phone pictures, taken with the phone inches away from him/her:

...and a few scenic ones, but also just taken with a phone camera (LG G3). I have a Canon Rebel and love it, but don't usually drag it with me:

    I have a few mods
some photos from tonight, any suggestions on what I can do to improve these night shots? the big one I can think of is using a timer or get a remote clicker for my camera to avoid camera shake. This time around I used my LCD Live screen to manual focus instead of trying to use the view finder like ive done in the past, shots turned out WAY better than before. I think they came out pretty good. first couple were taken with my 55-200mm lens @ 200mm and I think ISO was 800 or 1600, I dont remember. But the last 3 were taken with my 35mm Prime at 10 second shutter speed, f/1.8 and ISO 200

I have found fireworks can be blown out pretty easy due to the amount of light they produce. With the settings you had the camera was letting a lot of light in at a time. Try to reduce it through lower ISO and a smaller aperture in addition to using a remote release. These are some of my shots I took tonight. Settings were ISO 100, f/14 and f/16, manual focus to infinity, tripod mount, image stabilization off, bulb setting on the camera with a corded remote shutter release. This allowed me to hold the shutter open as a long as I needed and I was able to get multiple bursts without blowout until the grand finale.

Need some help. Cameras a nikon D3000. Nothing special and lately, all my pictures have been coming out with blurry edges of the pictures. Any ideas on how to fix this? I've tried cleaning the lens and auto focus is on. Any other ideas?

    Here's an example.

what shutter speed do you usually use? a faster speed will usually correct that

If your lens has internal stabilization, try turning that off. It might be knocked out of whack, creating the opposite effect.

What lens are you using? How old is the camera and lens and have you ever had either one serviced? Sometimes even a mild drop of a lens could throw it out of alignment and not allow crisp focusing. On the other hand some lenses just do not perform well when at their zoom limits. Have you checked the camera side of the lens to see if there is anything on the glass there?

Normally I use manual and the shutter speed is somewhere in the middle to low hundreds. This particular one was 1/2500 with f/6.3.

Heres another with a shutter speed of 1/250 and f/ 8.0

I have tried it with both vr on and off. There is less blurriness when vr is on. How could I tell if its been knocked?

Lens is a 18-55mm. Camera is just a few years old. I bought it second hand from my cousin who maybe used it once or twice then was put in a case and never used. I have not serviced anything and doubt it was done before. Any way to tell if its just the alignment? I try not to shoot at the limits of the zoom but this blurriness seems to happen no matter what zoom im at. Lens is clean and I have tried cleaning it several times.

Do you have any friends nearby who also use Nikon equipment? You could try one of their lenses on your body and your lens on their body to see if that can narrow down where the issue may be.

I have another lens (thinking my cousin got a "kit" when she got the camera) so will try that here in a few minutes and post back. Thanks for the help guys. Greatly appreciate it.
