All 3rd gen owners, what have you done to protect your truck?

I thought this topic merits a thread of its own.
What have you done for protection and against theft while you are away from your truck?
It could happen to anybody at any time. While you're inside a mall or doing groceries, at the movies, at work, or gym... while you're away from it.
While your truck is not in your garage safely at home.
Any security alarms? Glass breakage addition? or give a shock when armed etc?

I have new one of

$65 The Club 2100 Truck/SUV Club Steering Wheel Lock, Red

these and keep it under my seat, and put it on while I'm away.

(So far all I hear is mods and lift kits, and suspension upgrades, grill and lightbars and wheels and tires and body armor,.. all of it could vanish if somebody jacks your truck. Nobody seems to care about security. I am curious to see how you are protecting your investment.)

 

I have a blackvue DR650 with power magic pro that ive yet to hard wire in the taco.. I had it in my Subaru, 24hr surveillance.. Works pretty good, although it wouldn't necessarily prevent anything from happening, it's nice to have eyes-on when I'm not in/near the truck

Vico power plus Battery management system too. But so what. It doesn't offer me any security. If somebody breaks your window to steal, they'd grab the dashcam and whatever if not the whole truck. It's not like the dash cams is able to remotely saves the data to a cloud server. if its stolen, all evidence is gone too.

 

The club can be beat with a small high strength self tapping screw / bolt (screw into key hole) and a claw hammer. Screw in the screw and use the hammer to pry out the key cylinder.

A sliding impact hammer works better though.

It takes some work but doable.

 

Blackvue at least has cloud storage ;-)

Good insurance with a low deductible , let them steal it and I'll buy the new model and maybe even try a different color. LOL

 

The club should be installed backwards if one is going to use it . So the key lock cylinder is facing forward and is harder to access without a key. Still not foolproof(is anything really?) but better.

 

If you buy a club, and if your vehicle got stolen, the club company also remunerates your loss. You have to register the vehicle with them, and always use it as well. Not sure how they establish whether their customer was using the club at the time of theft or not, but this is what I know of it. I am still waiting for mine and learn more about it. You have to show the proof of purchase, so got to keep the receipt filed

 

I don't have one anymore but used one for years. It could have caused a would be car thief to pass me up in favor of the next easier looking steal. Who knows. Better than nothing at all anyway.

Had a friend who drove an older Corvette and put the club on unlocked, left the doors unlocked, left the ignition key in the ashtray. He just didn't give a shit, said that's what insurance is for, ha. Never had any problem.

 

A hacksaw and 30 seconds will render that club useless. If you are serious about vehicle theft install a hidden kill switch.

This came to mind as I read this thread.
Billy Wagner`s truck stolen after getting into Atlanta for his son`s travel ball team at 11pm that night.

Wagner arrived Wednesday night at 11:07 p.m. at his hotel, and minutes later, his Ford F-350 was stolen.

I bought a manual, added no 5 finger flip mods and added a gps traceable sticker on all doors.

If they still want it after that; I'll order another.

 

If I drag your prize on my flatbed, what difference does a club, ignition kill or anything else make? Stuff like this are deterrents for kids, joyriders and simpletons looking for easy-peasy, not actual professional thieves.

My guess is they don't. They tell you to prove you were. Claim denied.

Proper insurance is the answer, as well as reasonable precautions. If mods are high dollar, add them to your insurance, 'cause they aren't going to pay for them if they are not recorded.

And don't leave anything in any vehicle you can't live w/o.

In all seriousness, how are people stealing cars with the new wireless/keyless ignition systems? Is it still as easy as "hot wiring?" (I'm talking starting it, not dragging it on a flatbed or something).

I have asked this mutiple times when newer ones are taken. Still haven't got an answer.

 

I have the Kraco Nightstick.

The nice thing about it is it's thin, easily stored, and can be used as a bat for defense.
