Agree!! I love my 2016. No issues at all. The creature comforts make this truck really enjoyable to drive! I love the heated seats, mirrors, moon roof and Etune!! I've had (4) 1st gen and (1) 2nd gen and I love my 3rd gen. The 2nd gen is a great truck and I love the low end torque of the 4.0! However, I really enjoy the new features that the 3rd gen now offers.

Some of the problems I have now did not pop up until 12k miles on the vehicle. Many 2016 owners here don't have that much mileage on their truck either. So consider that...

And most don't have any issues. It's the usual car message board scene where you'd think almost every current vehicle made was POS.

I think you're going to pay the same money for either. You may as well buy new.

Cannot speek for the 2015 although I did test drive one and it seemed ok vs the 2016. The back "seat" on the access cab was not useable for anything but tools or a 5 min ride to town, kids only. Went for the 2016 DCLB, it is 10.5 inches longer than my old Dakota club cab but still shorter than my even older F250. Rear camera is a great help. Love the truck so far, 3000+ miles on it, mostly a trip down the east cost to Florida and back. Worst tank 20.1, best 23.7 (hand calculated) getting almost 23 to work and back. Nice to have the locking tailgate too.

Most of it is personal preference. Good luck in what ever model you pick.

When I was looking at the 2016s the dealer was pushing me on a 2015 and 2014 that they still had on lot, not sure what the 2015 was I'm thinking demo it only had 10 000KM on it. the 2014 had 65 000km on it.

The price was stupid though. 32K for the 2014, 38K for the 2015...41K for a new TRD sport.
I personally wouldn't buy a used toyota, the price difference (at least here in canada) always seems to be so close I don't see the point in buying a used one. Its a good thing in a way that they hold their value, but when it comes to buying pre owned not worth it to me. Rather buy new.

That being said, the 2nd gen had its own problems as well.
The new engine isn't really all that 'new' its been used in lexus SUV for the past 2 years.
if you can wait till 2017 that might be a better idea, at least wait for the bugs to be sorted out on the 3rd gens. Otherwise...get which ever you like more. They're both toyotas and both will end up being a great reliable truck.
But you'l get better MPG out of a 3rd gen.

    This!

I looked underneath a 2016 it doesn't compare to my 100 series Land Cruiser.

That being said, Toyota designs the Land Cruiser to be the most ultimate off-road, dependable, and most reliable vehicle with a near unlimited budget. MPG's are an after thought. It is tested on almost all 7 continents in various temperatures and harsh environments.

The Tacoma on the other hand has tight budget constraints judging by Seatbelt Mike's earlier interviews when he designed it. MPG's seemed to be a priority followed by everything else which can lead to compromises in everything else when designing it on a tight budget. That and it is only tested in North America.

Not being able to realistically carry more than one passenger can come in far more handy than one may think. I love knowing I'll never be asked to haul a group of people somewhere. lol

I say go for a 2016 Doublecab...they are sweet trucks.

Just remember to step up as a new Tacoma owner and take care of the maintenenace basics when you get home. No whining and complaining the dealership didnt give you a perfect truck.
