    LOB,

I have dirtbiked Red Cone and Webster Pass probably 8-10 times over the years and many other 4WD passes here in Colorado. Unless you have a good deal of offroading experience AND underside armor, I wouldn't even think about doing Red Cone. Hell, I have a lifted and armored FJ and I am not ready to inflict the type of potential damage of a Red Cone run.

In my opinion only, the likelihood of serious damage is greater than 50% on a stock height, unarmored vehicle. It's not just the one section you are seeing in the photo threads, there are lots and lots of rocky sections and VERY steep sections. The two hills coming down from the Red Cone summit to the top Webster Pass on dirt bikes are controlled skids where you are just steering and sliding the entire hill. These would be incredibly intimidating in a 4 wheeler.

Might I suggest that maybe you join the group near Denver and see if you can tag along with someone who has already done it? Here is the description on Trail Damage:

    http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=9

"If you have a 4x4 vehicle with a decent amount of clearance you can do this trail. The issue is that it can be mentally challenging to do the trail because of the long, steep descent down from Red Cone. There are lots of rocks and a good, optional obstacle on the way up, but it's the last part of the trail that people remember. It's VERY steep and often filled with loose rock. If you slip sideways you could have a difficult time recovering. If you slip off of the trail going down the Mountain you will most likely die -- the trail is about the width of two or three cars and about 1,000 feet down to the next flat spot.

That danger is why this trail is not to be taken lightly!"

Thanks for the reply and the concern, I will probably skip it until i get a lift/armor and some more experience. UFC 200 is on Sat night anyways, lol..

Lots of different perspective on Red Cone.
I recall it having a few rocky sections, and of course the steep downhill that some slide down and others have no trouble at all with. It's more of a visual panic than anything because of the side drop off's.
I would not take a stock vehicle up it though.

I tried this trail stock last year by myself and ended up turning around pretty quickly! I have a lift and 32" tires now but still don't think I'm ready for that trail with no armor...

I ran it twice last year. Fun trail careful placement hanging that right and a tacoma will walk right up. Miss it a bit and you will catch the trees or have to resituate. Coming down I heard scary stories but had no issue. The wind and height give me a bit of vertigo though when I get out

A small handful of select mods.
And don't forget oil pan rock that took out the Canadians oil pan on the Heep last fall. Hell even with my 315's it dinged my rear diff a bit. Strange rock for sure.

I think a bunch of guys in my original group are dropping out for the 9th. Also there's another large group gonna be on the trail the same day. Maybe we could do the 10th instead? Or try another trail on the 9th?

I've gone and taken the day off for work and everything already... so are you saying that the whole thing is a bust now?

Nothing is a bust. Just said it might be smart to do a different trail, or do a different day. Did you have your heart set on red cone?

Most all of the trails, at this point in the season, are going to have a lot of traffic. I'll be in for Red Cone if it happens.

Red cone looks like a nice refresher compared to all of the closed-in, tight trees trails that I've done this season.

Possible run on Friday, somewhere front range, sometime during the day, and on the easier side of the scale. Gauging interest and/or trail suggestions.
