Sorry to start another thread about this, but I'm feeling I'm getting the runaround. All advice and comments welcome.

I took my new Tacoma (930 miles) to the dealer today asking to have the trans fluid checked and expressed concern about the driveline being greased.

When I picked it up the service advisor said the "transmission is a sealed unit and shouldn't be opened according to the master technician who performed the work". He said the trans fluid was checked with some tool and found to be ok.

However here's what the work order reads: "FLUID WAS SLOW DRIP AT 26mm OK."

Nothing was noted on the work order about the driveline grease. The service advisor said they are greased during manufacturing and never need to be greased. I said that doesn't make sense to have grease fittings if it doesn't need to be greased. He said "that's the way it is these days". He also went on to say after talking with the service manager that I should be careful with what I read on the internet.

I may take it to another dealer in the area and ask them about my concerns.

Take it somewhere else, you're getting the shaft!

there is a tool to check the tranny when hot. it is inserted thru the drain plug hole. they first create a vacuum in the tranny at the fill hole and when they remove the drain plug the fluid does not gush out and they insert the tool. it is a tube the goes up into the tranny and set at a specific length according to the temp of the fluid. now, is that the tool they were talking about???
sounds like it since they stated "FLUID WAS SLOW DRIP AT 26mm" but i would check back and ask them....

Never tell them you read anything on the Internet. Even if it is true
