Limited slip just applies power to the wheel that isnt slipping andwhen works properly a great traction aid. But no comparison off road to a rear locker that applies equal power to both wheels.

Yup, I'd lose the LSD in the rear and put a locker in before considering one in the front, especially with IFS. I've been wheeling with a member on here with a 3rd gen sport (LSD in the rear) and he's run into a couple spots that our lockers got us through just fine but his LSD wouldn't provide enough traction and one spot where he had to be pulled up and over. He went home that day and ordered an ARB locker for the rear, lol.

Can you find out the part bumper and if it fit? I have a 3rd gen sport in the market for an arb air locker for the rear. But they haven't released one yet and I haven't seen someone who has done it yet.

I'll see if I can get it from him, he's having it installed in a few days.

None of the 3rd gens have a rear limited slip differential, they have e-LSD, which is an open differential. The skid control ECU uses the brakes to transfer power to the wheel with grip, but it's not the same as an actual LSD. Saying that, with a locker, the e-LSD would still be fully functional as long as the locker is off, so you're not really losing anything.

Rear locker is going to be much more useful than a front locker, especially with IFS.

I believe the new trucks use the brakes for the LSD so you dont have the traditional mechanical LSD problems.

What about LSD units for the front? Do they make a Tru-trac for these?

Tell where you're getting gears. I haven't seen anywhere that's offering gears for the 3rd gen yet.

funny many say do not do front as IFS doesn't like it, yet in ARB videos they say add a front locker to make the front diff stronger LOL.

Regardless I'd say rear. Plus the LSD in the taco's is done through the breaks, not a clutch pack. so with the locker you'll still have the LSD for all other driving (snow if you get snow where you are, LSD is nice to have)

BUT definitely if you are regearing do it when you do the locker. kill two birds with one stone in labour.

I wouldn't be concerned too much with the strength of the front differential if you do a locker, but rather the CV shafts and also with how the front suspension reacts when you have the front end locked with an IFS.

Traditional LSDs are pretty reliable.... Toyota just found a way to dual purpose the ABS system to alleviate the problems of using an open differential. While I like the idea, I'm not convinced it's better.

I don't think Toyota should call it a LSD in any way. IMO, it's misleading.

i would wonder how hot your transmission is also getting running stock gears and 33s. I felt driving mine with stock gears and 33s felt fine, but once i installed a trans temp gauge i saw i was always driving around in the 230-260 range which isnt good. now with gearing i am under 200.

and while it would be nice for toyota to offer that, they never do lol. luckily its easy to change gears.

I live in Florida so it's fairly flat terrain. With 285 copper pros and it's never even in 6th gear lol. I've found it drives much better if it just slide it into 5th but it still flips between 4th and 5th constantly lol
