2016 Clear Bra Protection

Thinking of getting this precut kit off eBay for the front.. I got the precut headlight covers about a week ago and the fit was decent. Has anyone purchased/installed this kit? Who is rocking some clear bra paint protection other than this one and what'd you pay? Don't these require professional work? I know it can be done w./ help from watching a couple of YouTube videos too maybe. Certainly at that price it's amazing. Quotes I've gotten here starts about at $1100

 

I think "professional" is a matter of opinion when it comes to stuff like this as it is rather tedious, but with patience and attention to detail it can be done right. For the price offset of having a shop do it I'd rather do it myself.. Just looking for people's opinions and wondering if there is any major differences when it comes to brands of clear protective vinyl

 

I just got a full Suntek kit put on a couple weeks ago for $650. Includes every painted surface on the front clip, about 18" up the hood and fenders, headlights, fog lights, mirrors, and door cups. It is well worth the money to get it done professionally. I bought a sheet for about $100 and tried to do just the hood on my IS 250 and failed miserably- and it has a very simple hood. I watched a bunch of videos on how to do it and took my time but could not get it looking good.

 

This is what I do for a living...we charge $750 installed for full kit (front portion of hood, front portion of fenders, full front bumper, mirrors, behind door handles and door edges) installed with Xpel Ultimate Self-Healing film, 10 years manufacturer warranty here in Oregon...Clear bra is not as easy to install as you think. Good luck.

 

I wish you were in SD. Not one shop I checked w. quoted me less than 1 grand. Most were $1500 and up.

 

That's about what the dealers mark our clear bra up to when selling to their customers around $1000-1200. The only time we get to the $1500 range is when it's fully wrapped hood and fenders so there's no seam.

 

Same in the Bay Area.. I'd rather get a full truck wrap in matte black or something for not too much more

 

They quoted $1100 for just the full kit, the area's you've mentioned. Full wrap was something closer to $2k. I wish the manufacturer set the price, so that the shops didn't charge so much.

 

Keep in mind that wrapping a vehicle (not in clear bra) is not paint protection. Rocks will go straight through it into the paint. a wrap is not made to take a rock, and no matter what anyone says, it's not a paint replacement...it's very thin film compared to paint protection film that is thicker, more durable and some have built in hardcoat to take rocks.

 

I've had my truck treated w. Opti-coat Pro plus two weeks after I got the truck from the dealership. I know it's not the same as XPEL film, this is more of a Silicon Carbide gel application all over the body of the truck, and it bonds with the clear coat. Locks in the clear coat shine, and gives my truck an always wet look. It's hydrophobic too with a 10 yr warranty. It can only protect paint damage due to sun light, UV, chemicals and minerals in water and rain and against dust and dirt. Not against scratch, scuff and rock chips and road rash. That alone was quite expensive. The same shop offered XPEL application, which I couldn't afford.

 

Check with some of the shops near you, they may install the film for you for a
couple hundred bucks - if you provide the film. The only drawback is that if they
mess up a piece, replacement is on you. I had my front end completely wrapped
in Nano-Fusion film (full hood, partial fenders (including flares), bumper, headlights,
alpha pillars, 10" up on the roof behind the door handles, door edges and a 6" x 8"

$248.99 is a good price for 3M Scotch Guard, but NO shop is going to guarantee
coverage on a kit provided by a third party. My film was cut on my vehicle and all
edges are within 1/8th inch of the vehicle part's edges.

 

248.99 is a steel, mine came with it from the dealership, $990 tacked on to the price of the truck

 

I don't know ANY shop that will install film that's provided to them and not supplied by the installer. We would tell you no thanks.

IF that link is 3M's new Pro Series film, it's garbage and has adhesion issues. Anywhere heavy stretching is necessary WILL pull back and edges will untack.

 

I would recommend haggling more on price for some folks here. I was initially quoted $1500 for an XPEL Ultimate bumper/headlights/partial hood/partial fenders/mirrors/pillars/roof strip/rocker panels kit by one installer, then got a quote from a second installer in a different city & region, same kit, for $850. The first place immediately came down to $850 without hesitation.

These were both experienced installers listed on XPEL's website as certified dealers/installers too. One in NV, one in NE. YMMV, but there should be haggle room out there.

 

I'd question the quality of the install, and film, for ANYONE willing to do standard full kit clearbra less than $650-700. This is not cheap film when using the right good stuff, and it's worth every penny to have an installer do it properly. Many clearbra guys cut the corners and edges ON THE VEHICLE, and many clearbra guys leave knife marks all over your paint - which you won't know until 8 years later when you go to remove it and find deep knife marks and possibly rip the paint off your hood.

yea mine had it on it too $750, but just the hood, fenders, lights and mirrors. the place I need it is the front grille surround and the bumper, but they wanted like another 650 to do the rest. Mine truck is white and my concern was it turning yellow. They say if it ever does bring it back, so we wait and see what happens.

 

All films will eventually turn slightly yellow...but 3M is the worst for yellowing. What brand film are you using? And white, unfortunately, shows yellowing the worst.
