Since this thread has gone a little this way, I'll just say I always wear my seat belt. I just don't like the chime reminding me to put it on. Here's food for thought... Why do we have seatbelt laws but no helmet law?

For those that are unplugging the seat belt connector under the seat.

It is disabling the SRS/Airbag System.

You need to understand, with this unplugged and you get in a wreck it may cause you to die.

Sorry dude, but I thought as a medic you would prove the forum a favor and lead by example and tell it like it is.

I may not have seen people get 'expelled' from their vehicle going slow speed (I have seen fatalities from ejections at faster speeds), but I sure as shit have seen multiple people with severe head injuries requiring hospitalization from slow speed collisions directly related to the lack of wearing of seatbelts. Ive seen heads smash windshields and side windows to the point where the safety glass is shaped like a head. Their buddy beside them who IS wearing a seatbelt is completely unharmed, not even a scratch. Completely avoidable if the idiot was wearing a seatbelt.

Don't be lazy. Don't be an idiot. Wear a god damned seatbelt. Its sole purpose is to save you from injury or death. /rant

I have worn seat and shoulder belts ever since they became available. However, I found my 2014 Tacoma does not understand that the passenger seat back folded down with a box of books on it is not an unbelted passenger.

How about before you get in buckle your seatbelt, then sit in the seat and go. Of course only do this if you are not on the highway or out in a pasture somewhere.

I never wear my seat belt. I enjoy the beeping. Sometimes after it stops beeping I'll throw the truck in neutral and turn the key off. Just gotta be fast about turning it back on if the road is curvy cuase the steering locks up. Might just be something wrong with my homemade steering column though. But after you turn the key back on with the belt off you can hear the beeping again. It's great!

Ok then. If you are off-road and driving your vehicle and getting out frequently please wear your seatbelt to avoid being injured. Or if you do wear your seatbelt and frequently put stuff in your passenger seat and are tired of the annoying beeping take it to Toyota and get them to turn it off or buy the cable and get a copy of the software and do it yourself.

I would assume this is America and a free country and someone has the right to not wear it if they want even if they choose to break the law and possibly get hurt. Or if they don't like having a nanny device bugging them they would have the right to disable it. The light is still there and I'm sure there is an officer willing to write them a ticket if they choose to break the law.

I wear mine most of the time, but hate when I'm making multiple stops between errands. So I just traced the belt tag onto some 1/8" stainless stock and made my own that fits into the buckle. Not that hard for a bunch of guys that work on their trucks constantly.

You really sound sure of yourself.

If you unplug the seatbelt electrical connection and the system no longer knows that it is connected or not, do you think that they would leave the air bag enabled to blow up in your face and kill you as you are not being restrained by the seatbelt? ...

I am sure! I know my air bag is still enabled because the air bag light comes on when the system is checking the circuit. Then goes out when the system checks all good!
    And this...
    image.jpg
Two wires that are unplugged and neither is marked as part of the air bag circuit. But the air bag light going out is the clincher!

If you say it, it must be true.

It isn't marked as part of the Air Bag Circuit, because it isn't directly part of the air bag circuit.

Let's try this one more time... Even if I had the same system as your 2012 THE TRUCK THINKS MY SEAT BELT IS FASTENED ALL THE TIME ANYWAY! And it is 'cuz I always wear it! It saved my face 30 years ago (no air bag). I even had a car without even lap belts. Couldn't get rid of it fast enough, felt naked driving without a seatbelt. My first mod has always been seatbelt chime delete.
