I like the concept a lot. I'd probably just cut the console down. Either way, it does create a lot more room.

I use the center console a lot as elbow support when getting in and out of the truck. No way I'd remove mine.

Nice work Caribe, that's the hook up! Not as snazzy as the DC console but will do well for the intention of making more flexible space. Not cutting the original, definitely keeping for resale. I'd really like to try one before I drop the money though... wishful thinking. Thanks

I'm looking at that, and I don't think it's going to work. The DC has cupholders between the shifter and the dash. In the bench the shifter is right next to the dash, cupgolders to the side. Shifters are in diffferent places. No V6 + auto+ 4x4 in the bench models?

Update. Several days into a beach trip without the center console, and it is a definite superior arrangement. Can put anything there, camera bag, cooler, snacks, multiple charging devices, anything. I love this. Still not pretty, but I don't care. Console seems like a big hollow waste of space that keeps everything out of reach. Highly recommend. Not going back.

If it works for you go for it ... I guess that's my polite way of saying "put the console back in" ... but this is coming from a guy who removed his rear seats within 24 hours ... :D

Wow, carrying growlers within arms reach of the driver would result in a very large ticket where i come from...

Not sure if you've noticed or not, don't see it posted, but the oem console comes apart behind the shifter. No cutting required. At least the panel around the shifter would still be there. Don't ask to see my reg cab for comparison, it has same console as AC or DC and it isn't auto and it came this way. It has storage bins like DC too.

Found an auto single cab and had a good look, definitely not plug and play. If I find one cheap I'll pick it up and try cutting and gluing sometime, but have found I don't care what it looks like enough to make an active project of it. Still no regrets; it was a big huge box with a tiny storage space for forgotten stuff I never used. Now I can put anything there.

The transmission cable is the same for all cab models. I'm wondering if the cab floor has the holes to relocate the transmission control box as the single cab, then you could use the cover to the dash with no hacking.

Interesting idea. The auto shifter on the V6 DC is several inches further back than the SC. From what I can tell there was no V6 SC, if so that would have been an almost certain fit. If moving that shifter is a strictly bolt on project I would consider it, but I have to assume Toyota has these in different places for a reason, and the consoles were made to match after, as a consequence. But If that reason was simply to take advantage of the extra space in the DC, you may have found an answer. Will have a look though and see what may be there.

That's perfect. I will have to track down a SC that's parting out.

I've been scratching my chin looking at ways to eliminate the stock center console and as much plastic between the seats as possible. Just takes up space unnecessarily and isn't very efficient storage. Thanks for starting this thread @dajabr, glad to know there may be simple trim pieces to free up some space and not necessarily have my truck look like a thief tore it apart.

My previous truck started life with a bench seat and the interior was much easier to work with and customize to what I wanted. I just don't 'get' the love of all the plastic and gizmos they pack into vehicle interiors.
