Why stone vs a concrete floor? Just curious

 

The stone is gonna be under the concrete!

 

I was confused cause i thought the concrete foundation gets poured 1st.

The stone is used as a base and a means to level. Not sure what size stone he used, but for the most part stone can be compacted to a higher density than soil. Therefore it makes a better base for a large concrete slab. Also, it makes it easier to get grade or "level" with the stone and still keep compaction.

 

Right, i get all of that. Like I said, out here in AZ, concrete is poured 1st and then the house built on top of it. My house I have now and much of Phoenix was once a lot of corn fields and Citrus fields. So in my garage now it is a load bearing slab that cant be broken or drilled into without causing some structural issues.

 

O, you are talking about the structure going up first not the aggregate. My bad...

I never educated myself on building a house. Ive lived in Phoenix for 38 years and seen a lot of houses built, this is why i was confused. Its always been structure 1st, surroundings last.


Good thing this is a house building thread and not a truck building thread. Id feel bad for jacking it.

 

The pole barn structure does not have a footer or typical foundation of a house, it is simpler and cheaper to build vs. an actual foundation.

Normally yes, for something that would be load bearing on the concrete slab you'd pour a t-shaped type of foundation.

Yeah the slab will just be a floating slab and not load bearing, that is typically the way the pole buildings are built, you could pour a slab first but most of the time it is the other way around. The poles are sunk into a concrete slab 3' into the ground which is the support for the building. The slab will be a monolithic pour so it will simplify things a bit.

My truck is a piece of junk that rearly moves these days, but at least I'm "building" something

Hah I wish, going to build the 4runner first then SAC the tacoma. My goal is to get the garage built first, SAC the 4runner, break the 4runner, build is stronger, flop the 4runner, give up hope on it, SAC the tacoma, and the cycle repeats
