I am looking for a Used Tacoma. I found a 2014 with 24k miles at a Toyota Dealer. It is CPO.

I found this online and in the picture the Tacoma looks like it was maybe a SR5 Tacoma and the dealer upgraded it to TRD Sport. Is this possible for them to do? My first clue was the picture online shows the hood without the scoop. Another clue is there is a picture of the tailgate that is cut off, but it looks to me like it says SR5.

Is there a definitive way to tell? Should I care?

Sport comes with hood scoop, color matched bumpers, and color matched side mirrors with turn signals. That's... just about it. Nothing major mechanically between an SR5 and Sport.

Most dealers have a line on their site saying photos may not match the actual item. Keep that in mind. They'll point to that.

You can search the VIN online on some sites to determine what the VIN says it is (SR5, Sport, etc).

EDIT: Now, a TRD Off-Road is a bigger deal as it'll have a different sized differential, an E-Locker in the rear diff.

Also, a factory installed Tow Package is a nice feature as it adds a tow hitch on the back, an upgraded alternator size, and an oil cooler mounted to the front of the radiator.

Check for an outlet inverter in the bed on the passenger side

Oh yes. That too. Sport and Off-Road have that. SR5 doesn't.

What about the Bilstein Shocks? Could they just add those?

I don't think they'd go through all of the trouble to add the hood and the bilsteins.

Are you looking at the 2014 Silver Access Cab with 24k miles?

When I click your link it takes me to a list of trucks.

If so I think they have picures of two different trucks there. Neither have a hood scoop though.

The wheels change between them. I think one is a 5 lug and the other is 6 lug.

Yeah the first 6 pictures show an Access Cab SR5 5-lug.

The rest of the pictures show a 6-lug Access Cab TRD Sport (totally different truck).

For the price it better be the Sport model.

No way anyone pays that for a used 5-lug model.

To be a dealer upgrade model they'd have:

Changed the rims/lug pattern. Changed the tires. Added Sport decals. Added running boards. Added color keyed front grill. Added Sport mirrors. Removed the SR5 badge on the tailgate and added the V6 badge. Removed the dealer tag (seen on the 5 lug photos in lower left of tailgate).

Way too much work. This is a simple web/IT guy fuck up.

I think the Bilstein shocks were used on the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road.

My SR5 didn't have the "Bilstein" name on them - though they were probably still made by Bilstein.

Other pictures in the Toyota Certified link (pic 27/40) shows the power outlet I think.

Would TRD Sport have 17" wheels not 16"?

As Bill Clinton would say "I have no dog in this hunt" so I am not going to dive into the issue of exactly what variety of truck is being offered. That being said, my only comment would be that the OP should ask himself (herself?) why in the world would you do business with a dealer you don't trust before even having any dealings with them. Just an observation by a disinterested party.
