Have you tried driving it in other modes the than D such as S4 or with the ECT button on?

D is to allow the most fuel efficient mode so it has a tendacy to climb to the highest gear and keep the revs low. If you try and accelerate by feathering the throttle it will feel like the truck is hesitating until you give it more throttle, then it responds.

S mode and the ECT button make the throttle inputs more linear.

If you're having other problems such as transmission slipping then get it into the dealership to get it looked at.

I've had nothing but poor experiences with the drive-train performance of this truck. At first I thought it would just take time to break in...nope. Now it's "break-ing" because it's currently awaiting a rear diff assembly replacement at the dealer as we speak. The automatic transmission is finicky at best and many others have voiced complaints about the performance of this truck. There are at least 5 members here I can name off who have either had buy back/lemon law, or have legal cases in process with attorneys involved on the 3rd gen truck. I don't think the motor is really the problem. I do think there is possibly a combination of mechanical and software related issues causing some of these trucks to drive/perform worse than others. I drove my friends SR5 DCSB 4x4, same engine, tranny, same gear ratios basically the same exact truck as mine except without all of the bells and whistles my TRD OR has. That truck drives a million times better than mine but the dealer can not put their finger on the cause. There are rumors and conjecture (no fact) that a software update is in the works. I'm not totally convinced that will fix all of the problems. We're talking about the same platform from truck to truck, running the same software and yet totally different performance (even if perceived performance) from one baseline to the next. It makes it concerning for me that there might never be a true root cause or solution. Toyota is not known for their rush to resolve these types of issues, just see the 2nd gen for proof...

I love the look and style of the truck. I just want it to drive confidently.

Try the manual transmission lol, 500-1200rpm has it's own dead power curve, another curve to 2200-2200-2500 another curve, and at 3600 there's a valve timing kick lol, it's bizzare.
