IIRC the adapter still uses the tailhousing from an A750f (4wd), which is what mounts on the crossmember. The output shaft has to be cut down and a crossmember built.

You will need a 4wd tailhousing. The mount bolts to the tailhousing, and is different from the prerunner tailhousing/mount, so its not just MOVING the mount, it is different all together.

Ash - I know that his right hand man that was doing most of his contacting and scheduling is gone now. There is someone else working with him now and I just sent that person a screen shot of this. Hopefully you will hear from him soon.

@3378jakesr5 If I decide to fully dive into the 4x conversion do you still have your old front 4x parts that you might want to part with? Also some time down the road would you be able to assist in fabricating that cross mount, I have no space, tools, or knowledge to work that.

Better to ask what I have not done.
I have the rack and pinion steering, and the front diff. Thats all i have left from the swap unfortunatly. The tranny crossmember is an easy thing to make and would be more then willing to help you out with it. But you should just go SAS too..... :D

Idk if I want to get into that much moding yet. This is still my DD. And toy hauler.

Maybe Monday I'll plan on stoping by some of the salvage yards to see what I can come up with. Damn budget is so tight though:mad:

The only thing with our trucks is that the upper control arm brackets and the coil over bucket are both diffrent and so you would be grinding down the whole front frame to weld new. If you find a wrecked one you and i CAN grind out the welds to make it reusable on yours as long as the whole frame is the same between a 2 and a 4 wheel drive. Lots of work though. Would litteraly be the same if not easier to do an SAS. unfortunately

Wow, your thinking of doing this conversion on your DD. I would just sell it/ swap it for 4X4 and save the money and tons of time.

Not true, the peeeeee runners have the same frame and suspension as a 4wd. Think of them like the kinda like the Steer http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/steer of real Toyota trucks

So, If I was going to do a swap to 4wd on a second gen..................

    I would buy:

    1. a matching Front differential (if you have a 4cyl your ratio would be different)
    2. used front cv axles
    3. new front unit bearings from one of the vendors here (why put used in in this case)
    4. a used transmission with transfercase from a FJ Cruiser (sounds expensive) Why FJ, manually shifted transfercase.
    5. if I lacked the wiring ability ORS could build me a harness to activate the front ADD
    6. fab a transmission crossmember (though measure 1st, it might only require buying a 4wd version)
    7. get matching drive shafts

Sounds like a lot of money. Things to consider, the resale value in Colorado of your truck will suck as a 2wd. The difference in price for the parts might be less for sure. If there is little savings, the knowledge gained will last a lifetime and will make you a better person more willing to tackle tough tasks. You might love this truck a lot, a place where you scored your 1st home run, wrestled a puma for his beer, who knows, this adds value you to?

I'd say try it, have a challenge that could be fun, make sure you have a spare vehicle to drive in the down time, drink beers with that puma you stole one from.

Any of you dudes know of a local spot or others that rebuilds/offers beefier rack and pinion set ups? I have a slight leak in my outer tie rod and I'm looking to upgrade it all since ill be pulling it out.

Luckily I have the v6 so gears hopefully are not a problem to find. As for the t-case, any real advantage of the fj aside from manual. I would much rather have an electronic switch. But don't want to touch the tranny wiring. Basically a manual t-case but controlled electronically

Fj case less prone to failure because of the actuator on the stock case
