First time posting in the 2nd gen section! :headbang:

Anyway, the cruise control on my dad's '08 Prerunner started going out about 6 months ago and officially went kaput a few weeks ago. He can't get it to engage for anything, no matter how far into the drive. Has anybody had this problem before or does anyone know what might be the issue? Fuse possibly? I've got no experience with electrical.

Never heard of this happening. I would probably let a mechanic look at that.

I had the same thing happen to my 2010 and the fix was pretty simple. I got a new cruise control "stalk/switch" from Toyota and replaced it. Apparently the button spring inside goes bad and the switch will not operate. I don't remember how much the part was but it wasn't crazy. Pretty simple to replace too.

Has he had the Spiral cable recall done? Ask your dealer if his vehicle falls under this recall.

Don't think cruise is an ECU monitored function for a CEL.

At least I don't recall seeing any codes in master lists?

Any chance you have an error code # for this?

Spiral cable typically rears it head with the airbag light lit, the horn not working, and the CC not working. Since they are all in the same cable.

If you are CC only problem check the switch above the brake pedal that disengages the CC when you tap it. If its broken, out of adjustment, etc. the CC can think it's supposed to be off because the brake is on.

2nd would be the brain itself, which is integral to the switch as someone has mentioned. An easy swap if you decide to go after that yourself. Just as simple as adding intermittent wipers on the other side.

Ok Just curious. Only reason I ask is that if the MAF has problems, the cruise control won't work either (at least on another vehicle I've had) and a bad MAF would throw a code. That was my thought process. Twas not the right one this time haha
