Hello all looking for some help
    Looking to by DC taco
-originally wanted sport but looking to spend 32 so would be ok w/ SR5
    - Need 4x4 bc I live in NY for winter and going on the beach
Prices here for a sport are 37 and prices for SR5 are around 34
    - If I go SR5 I would need fog lights and appearance package
    - don't know if it's worth it spending a few grand more for the sport.
    - don't want the OR
    - also looking to add leather, I know sounds weird but I feel like I can make the SR5 custom if I put leather and a lift and my own wheels on it
    Please help

Sounds like a sport except for the lift.

There's another thread on this already, but here was my take:

First off, I wouldn't buy the Sport. The sport comes with stiff suspension made by Hitachi and painted fenders, it has no locking rear diff and none of the off road bells and whistles that the TRD OR comes with. If you plan on rolling through strip mall parking lots, I guess the Sport is good for you but for the cost of the upgrades that come on the OR over the Sport, I just don't see how mathematically it makes more sense to purchase a Sport. You could paint the fenders and add a hood scoop for a lot less than you could add the better off road suspension, rear locker, MTS and crawl control. So to that point, I recommend the TRD OR over the Sport every day of the week.

Now for the selling point on the SR5, consider again the cost savings, a simpler vehicle without a lot of bells and whistles not necessarily needed on the TRD OR. Yeah it "feels good" and you get bragging rights with the TRD OR bells and whistles but do you REALLY need all of the extra buttons for maybe $4 or $5k additional cost? Think about the suspension, tire and wheel upgrades you could do to the SR5 and eventually you can add a locker for another let's say $1200 to $1500 max if you really think you need it. Also it seems like many of the people here reporting problems are having them with the TRD OR, plus there's more shit to break or go wrong with all of the extra (mostly unnecessary) technology on the TRD OR. So yea if I could do it again right now, I'd trade for a very basic version of the SR5 4x4. I wouldn't even get the entune stuff because I think most of it is worthless. Love my buddy's SR5. If Toyota told me today I could trade straight up my TRD OR with 12k miles for a new SR5 with tow package, I'd do it!

@smitty99 thanks a lot. Or is nice with bells and whistles but I want my own tires wheels on my truck. Plus I do a lot of highway and city and the OR has a bouncier ride then the SR5. And should I wait for the 17'?

OR ride should be softer, suspension is built on the OffRoad to take lumps and bumps. Bouncier stiffer suspension is on the Sport although I didn't find suspension on the SR5 to be too bad at all....never took off road however. I feel sport and SR5 suspension is about the same. I'd probably wait for the '17 if you can. Rumor there are some fixes in works for widespread Leaf Springs issues and Automatic Transmission erratic shifting. My 2016 is curently in the shop for rear diff replacement -- there are a handful of others here with rear diff problems on the 2016 as well. Some of it may be fixed in the 2017, but not likely all. If you can wait a few more months (90 days or so) the 2017's should be hitting the lots by October if not Sept.

No, the OR has the softest shocks out of all of them. Everything else is stiffer.

The Sport is a waste of money with its painted flares, painted bumpers, and hood scoop. That's all you get for the same price as the OR. The SR5 is a better deal. I think the only thing you will miss out on is the LEDDRL and Entune Premium head unit

My buddy got the SR5 and it drives a world of difference better than mine. I also thought his stock sound system and stereo was still more than adequate and it has Bluetooth too. It has the center dash display for fuel economy and such which I do like to have. I have the auto climate control but still find myself constantly mucking with it to get it just right. Like I said, if I could go SR5 and do it all over again, I would. I'd also test drive the shit out of several of them to make sure that transmission feels nice and confident and isn't shifting all over the place, watch out for Flaring between shifts and slipping feeling in the tranny.

Probably gonna swap the radio for Apple play a/m unit. The entune and the one that comes w/ the sr5 I'm hearing are pretty bad

I personally think most all of the entune apps are worthless. Honestly none of them really stick out to me as being something I could name off right here. I like the Fuel Economy tracking and for Nav I use my phone anyway, it's just more accurate. I don't see the major benefit for the $$$ of going from a SR5 to the Sport. You will get varying opinions. Test drive all of them, buy what you like. You'll be the one stuck making the payments.

Do those support all the gas mileage and settings for the truck? A lot of the trucks features are controlled via the head unit

Right that's why I want to make the right choice first. I didn't realize how much of a waste the sport is. When it comes to the stereo not w deal breaker but wouldn't mind either way

My sr5 is the best. If I had to complain about something then it does suck big time to have to take your keys out of your pocket to get into to your car.

It tracks mpg until you clear it. But the settings menu controls lighting, door locks, beeps, volumes, etc. It was a lot the first time I set it all

What do you mean? Doesn't it have keyless entry? Or is that an option

The TRD Sport and Offroad offer keyless entry where you just touch the door handle to unlock upon entry and lock after exit & shutting door as well as push button start. The SR5 still has a remote for unlocking but you have to take the keys out of your pocket to hit the remote button..... first world problems seriously

Still have to take your keys out of your pocket to press the unlock button on the key.

Unlock by touch is really really easy to get used to.
