The header drops peak torque on the 2.7 from 3800 rpm to 3150 rpm and smoothes the torque curve the entire power band.

The engine doesn't have to work as hard to get the same amount of power, therefore using less gas

How did you calculate the mileage, by scanguage or did you actually do the calculation based off off the number on the pump and the miles on your odo?

I never knew TRD made a set of headers. Man living in California and wanting to even lightly mod a vehicle just sounds like a huge pain. I feel for you guys. So when you guys go for your emissions check, do they go all crazy and pop the hood checking everything?

TRD used to make headers, they discontinued them 4 or 5 years ago if not longer. I have them on my 04, I love them...I don't know if they ever made them for second gens though.

When I had an emissions check last time (a few years ago), they went all out. They pop the hood, put some sensors down there, sensor in the exhaust, and throw it up on a dyno looking thing. Then they run it at 15 and 25 mph and measure certain emissions.

They sure as shit do, as well as check the gas cap, and they also stick a prob in the exhaust pipe. All on computer with results of test going immediately to DMV.

Let's put it this way Jake, I have a 2016 SR 5 speed 4 cylinder 4x4 access cab and I'm running 32" tires on a 3" ome lift and a front bumper guard, nfab side steps, and a curt hitch. I'm averaging 18-19 in town and about 21-23 highway. I just placed the order for my LCE header yesterday and I'm getting it for a tad more power and torque. It may up my mileage a tad but I'm not just getting it for the gas mileage.

Contact Doug Thorley , they've got CARB Legal 50 state certified headers . As long as any perf part has a EO # D 245 14 stamp it legal for Calif

On my 02 Double cab 4cylinder I just purchased their TRI Y shortie header and it's a smog legal part

As long as the part has EO # D 245 14 be it either a stamp ,plate or tag it's Calif legal

This is correct and it's funny how our first smog comes right after the warranty runs out. LOL

In response to an earlier post, the mpg figures were calculated at the pump. I haven't done the calibration on the scan gauge yet. This gauge will definitely make you change your driving habits. I mounted it by cutting a strip of sheet aluminum to fit behind the bracket that snaps to the back of the gauge. This left a one inch tab sticking straight down out of the gauge. I bent this forward and shoved it under the plastic trim at the top of the dash to the right of the steering wheel. Quick and dirty.

Some, including myself, have questioned how Toyota increased the compression ratio to 10.2 and added DUAL VVTi to this motor and did not increase the horsepower from 159. I wondered if they de-rated the motor for some reason. I have noticed that my absolute throttle position value on the Ultragauge only goes to 82% when I mash the throttle. My performance gains seem mostly to be at part throttle. I did not see a big increase in torque when I mash the throttle. LTFT runs about -5.5 running down the road. Which means less fuel? I may post in the 4 cyl. section to see if I can get an answer to the throttle question.

My 1st gen 3.4 only read from like 15 to 75 at WOT on the TPS. I think it's just the value the gauge reads it at. It opens wide open.

Not possible, as the 3.5L does not have headers. The exhaust ports are cast into the block going from 3 to 1 on both sides. Look on the side of your engine, you'll see a single pipe leaving the block.

I'm guessing there are decent gains to be had in 2 areas on the V6:

    1.) porting the head

2.) replacing that RETARDED crossover pipe that is smooshed down, and is (I think) the lowest part of the underbody.

I think aftermarket head/exhaust combo could potentially re-route and/or re-shape the exhaust runners, but historically there has been very little aftermarket support for the tacoma as far as performance goes.
