Hello, I'm new to the forums and have a question about a cap. I have an '01 xtra cab and have found a cap off a 95. The guy is about 2hrs away and he measured the cap at 76" by 60". I come up with 77" from the front outer edge of the bed to the back. So what I'd like to know is will a 95 cap fit on an 01. It is a fancier cap, the style that replaces the tailgate with the big "hatch" style and the smaller glass door in the center. thanks

    Welcome to TW!

I looked at that exact same cap if its the one off of Craigslist. As long as it fit on his 95 Tacoma extra cab then you should be just fine. But don't quote me on it. :D

I just didn't want to loose the tailgate. Looks like a solid deal though man. they are popping up everywhere now, so i may find what I want. Post pics if you get it man.

Is it a 95 pickup/Hilux or 95.5 Tacoma? Those are 2 totally different trucks.

OK, but does the seller knows what the seller is talking about? I find that most don't.

    cashman,

do you know who mfg. the cap?? if so,go to their web site and check what vehicles that cap WILL fit....It would suck you purchase it and find out that 1/2"-1" difference makes it leak....

Double-check to see if the cap was designed for a Regular Cab or an XtraCab. The rear cab walls have different profiles (slope), and some manufacturers slant their caps' front walls differently depending on which cab style the unit will be installed on.

If it's a Regular Cab cap, there will likely be a noticeable gap between the front edge of the canopy and your rear cab wall.

Just for the record ... That would be a mid-high canopy / cap (one whose roofline sits a bit higher than your cab). ARE never offered the rear hatch option on a cab-high model.

I wanted a cap for my '01 xtra cab. Wasn't wild about spending $1,000+ for the new cap.
I noticed the dealer had a used cap that matched my black truck.
We tried it by setting it in place "almost" perfect except the 3rd brake light at the top of the cab stuck out a bit and wouldn't allow the cap to come completely forward.
The recess for the brake light was smaller than the brake light on the cab.
The cap could come forward "possibly" if I removed the brake light and seal it from the weather.
I bought it as is and have it on the truck for the last two years.
A little overhang at the tailgate but liveable.
    $150.... installed.
