I was talking to my buddy in the gym about how carbs make such a huge difference. I can tell when I do my weekly re-feed that I have more energy and strength in the gym. I've been on a 5 week strength program for bench (5x5, 5x4, 5x3, 5x2, 5x1) for the last few weeks and next week is the 5 sets of 1, which means I'll be going for 5 super heavy sets....probably up to my max. I told him that the night before, I'll probably eat a shit ton of carbs so I can lift as heavy as possible.

I honestly think the lack of carbs in my current diet is why my deads have dropped off so drastically. I'm starting to like the way I look....but damn it I can't wait to bulk again.

Haha! Unfortunately for me, planet fitness doesn't let us lift heavy because we're weak and we'll break our bodies LOL. I can still get some decent workouts and I love pushing myself. I'm not happy if I'm not sore after 24 hrs. If i can't lift my arms or get spaghetti legs, I'm satisfied. I wish I could deadlift. That would be nice. But I get most legs done sufficiently. Now i just need more protein and some preworkout to carry me over. I hate going up in weight because i want to lose weight, but I'm sure thats just the muscle building

 well, go as heavy as you can for as many as you can. Fuck Planet Fitness. I went to one when I was out of town in April and it was terrible. I deadlifted on the smith machine because they didn't have any free weights. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy.

Don't pay attention to the scale. I know you said you wanted to be at 210, but screw the scale. Look in the mirror. You might gain some weight as you're gaining muscle.

What D said about weight. I was stuck on a plateau hard for 2 months in fall 2014 and even gained a few pounds back. But I was seeing results in other areas..waist getting smaller for one. The scale is a useful tool but not be all and end all

I know it's pussy shit to what you guys do, but I gotta brag a little.

Been doing 85 on bench for a bit now and earlier saw a Facebook reminder of when I tried to bench 100 one night. So I loaded up to 100. Previously I could only hit 3 sets of 5 I think. Tonight I nailed 3 sets of 10. Wanted to try a 4th but the last rep I was struggling so I didn't want to risk it. Did 4 sets of 12 shrugs with the 100 though.

Curl bar 3 sets of 12, 55 pounds.
Leg lifts, 3 sets of 10, 50 pounds.
Bent over row, 3 sets of 12, 40 pounds.
Cable flies, 3 sets of 12, 50 pound resistance tube.

Celebrated with protein shake, shower, and some late night naked cannonballz.

LOL only reason I joined was because my lifting buddy who has the black card and gets me in as his +1 left for back home for the summer so I got stuck without a membership so i decided to get my own and get back out there and do whats good for me. My wife loves that I'm adamant about going, and I've seen progress, but now i want to see if i can do better and get more mahsuly mahsuls!

So I got this text today from one of my best friends, I asked him what weight he used for how many reps/sets. His answer was 155 for 4 sets of 8. He said "i know my form was perfect but I think I'm sore because I've never deadlifted before" so I busted his ass for a minute and got him to agree to do back/bi's with me tomorrow. What's funny is that I've always been the super skinny weak ass friend, but I'm about to wreck his world tomorrow when we workout. I rarely talk about working out with any of the guys in this group message because none of them lift, but I guarantee it's going to blow his mind when we deadlift and I pull 100pounds more than him for the same reps lmao. And knowing Johnny, he thinks he's big man on campus and about to show me up in the gym.

That's why I don't do deads or squats. At my age I can't afford to risk a back injury, and mainly the fact that my knees are garbage.

Might be the biggest multi-quote I've ever done...this thread blew the fuck up last night!

I take Mr. Hyde for my pre-workout, but I also like MusclePharm Assault and TSN Pump Ingiter. Pre-workout effects everyone differently, so you'll have to try a couple. The main thing I look for is caffeine and beta aniline content.

You can do abs everyday of the year and not get a 6-pack if your diet sucks. Sure ab exercises grow the abs, but the abs aren't really a muscle you can put a lot of mass on, so the only way they're gonna show is to lower bodyfat. Also, hitting a bodypart everyday isn't the best idea. Muscles grow when they rest.

You say you want to build muscle and lose fat. Well I've got good news for you: newb gainz. After about a year of lifting, you have to pick 1...either build size or lose fat. Since you're a newbie in the gym, your muscles are going to grow, regardless of you goals. Enjoy it while it lasts because it won't last forever.

Lastly, if I were you, I'd find a free workout plan online. Shit can get confusing and, when starting out, it's best to follow someone who knows a thing or two, which is why I ALWAYS recommend Doug's 4 Day Split to everyone just starting out because I think it's one of the best programs out there, no matter what your goals are.

Been gym threading it up since around 2012-2013

I consume 20 grams of protein before 9 am. You need to be getting around 1 gram per pound of body weight

Banana Muscle Milk is amazing, but it's kinda high in fat. (Insert Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey plug here) That's my shit. It's cheap, tastes good, and is the highest rated protein on bb.com for 10 years in a row

I'm pretty sure I explicitly said that's why I was getting rid of them lol. Also, check the bottom of the tub....

    ...I pooped in it

I was really impresed with The Vitamin Shoppe when I went about a month ago. I'm lazy and ALWAYS forget to place my bb.com order until I run out of protein and we all know my feelings/experiences at GNC. At the Vitamin Shoppe, no one was trying to sell me miracle pills or anything, the prices were fair, and, most importantly, I didn't need no god-damned card to get a "special discount."

...and they had banana creme ON whey :D

Brah, me too. When I was younger (up until about 22-23), I could eat like a pig and never get fat. Now, I look at a damn bag of chips and gain 3 lbs. The upside is that I can throw on muscle so easily now. I was a 140 lb pipsqueak for 21 years and, even when I started lifting, my body wanted to be skinny. Now, I can throw on 5-15 lbs of muscle on in a year so easily...the downside is I get fat easy now, too :pout:

Only thing I'm gonna rag you on is the pills and multivitamins. My belief is that micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) are most effective when you get them from actual food. Multivitamins do nothing but make your pee change colors. There are SOOO many foods loaded with potassium. Also, I think like 98% of the world population isn't getting enough potassium or something like that. I upped my potassium to around 4000mg/day a few years back and my blood pressure dropped significantly. Bananas, V8, ravioli, baked potatoes, etc. are all loaded with it.

Wait.........you work at Discount Tire?! Which one? I am a loyal customer! When I bought my first set of A/T's, I called everywhere and DT had the lowest prices around. The service was amazing and I got free balance and rotation for life. I'm looking to buy some 255/85/16 BFG KM2's and they're the place I'm going to.

That was the biggest turn-off of low carb for me...my strength and energy dropped big time. I function properly at around 250+ grams

You have so much to learn, young padawan

Thank you! I've always wanted to get into Curb Your Enthusiasm, but never have. Nothing beats Seinfeld, though.

Sorry for the huge fucking multiquote. Maybe you fuckers should go to bed earlier.

And I didn't even score a spot in the multi..you bastige!

I ate crap and plus the soda addiction in my 20's and stayed around 200, because I had 2 physical jobs. I would also drink 20 beers for dinner 4 out of 7 nights. Getting a desk job made me explode.

Multis aren't a terrible thing sometimes..at my age though it's more a thing.

Haha man! I dont mind multiquotes especially if I learn something from them! Glad to see input from everyone. I skipped gym yesterday, but I'll go today.

Also, do you guys prefer morning or afternoon workouts? I like early morning because it just makes my day seem a lot longer especially on the weekends. So i can do more of what I want later in the day which usually means TW, world of tanks, battlefield 4.

I wish I could do mornings, but I am not a morning person at all. It takes a lot for me to get out of bed. Once I'm out, I'm good to go, but that initial getting my feet on the ground is terrible. I go after work, but go at like 9am on the weekends and love it.

Getting to beds easy for me. Right now my job has me at trump hotel in DC. I live about 2 minutes from the mason Dixon so I got a damn good commute haha. Hours are 5am-1pm so I'm up before 3 everyday.
