White letters out. The totally blacked out look is so over and not a minute too soon.

Ah. Welcome back to the 60's !

The old 'rule of thumb' was.......

Hubcaps = whitewalls. Narrow if a 60s, wide if 50's back.

Factory sport wheels, like rally wheels = white letters (or redlines, if you were cool enough to have an early GTO)

Factory racer wheels (steel wheels with dog dishes, accessory delete cars), white letter, red stripe or blackwalls.

Aftermarket wheels (Cragar S/S, keystones, Halibrands, etc.) = blackwalls

Why does there need to be a "rule"? Who in their right mind believes you have to be just like everyone else in order to be "unique"? No one besides ME pays for my truck....So why would anyone else's opinion on what I do with that truck have ANY bearing on what I do?

    If I like chrome.....chrome it!
If I like white letter tires....it's white letter tires....
If I like blackwalls, blackwalls it is!

IMHO, they ALL look good.....And I sure don't want to be a carbon copy of the next truck in line...

(I'm stock wheels and black walls....for now)

I am still trying to decide if I should get the TRD pro wheels in black or metallic gray. I want to put them on a silver TRD OR

If I went with the black TRD pro wheels I am afraid there will be too much black considering the black fenders, tired, and wheels.

Then again maybe if I displayed the white lettering it would break up some of that black.

    Thoughts

First of all if I could get the blacked out Tacoma I wouldn't even spend a second considering the grey (although they seem to wash themselves). The black is absolutely stunning. For the love of all that is Holy and Good get the black wheels if you get the black Tacoma.

If I had the black Taco I would put the white letters out (which is the way I have my FJ set up). Absolutely all black makes it hard to visually discern the different parts of the truck and in my opinion it ends up looking like an undifferentiated blob.

Just that little bit of white in the lettering of the tires makes it easier to really SEE the trucks fantastic lines IMHO.

    Letters out!

And do consider the black. It's worth $10 on a few extra microfiber towels per month. Or to put it another way Tacoma's look better when they are a little bit dirty!

I like white out to break up the black on the TRD Pro wheels. Given another chance I might have gone with the grey wheels, but I still like mine.

All just a matter of preference of course. And you have to scrub them down every once in a while to keep them white, or they turn brown from all the dirt.

Notice any difference in the feel of how the transmission performs, how the torque feels, acceleration after adding the tires? Can you tell they are a bit larger? Any road noise or stiffer ride due to the tire weight, size or leveling kit? I'm guessing it does perform (off the line), ride and handle differently from stock form, even if slightly.
