The GM 4.3 V6 is a good motor. Good low-end torque and matches the Tacoma on MPG.

Speaking for GM only, I'll never buy another after 20 yrs of only driving GM.

Telling me engine failure on my 5 yr old Colorado with 70k is normal when I can find the secret warranty online in 3 minutes or less..the same one no dealer ever heard of and then contradicted themselves 6 weeks later.

    That's why I won't buy a GM.

The Gen 1 Colorado was garbage. I was kind of hoping they would give the new trucks a new name so people wouldn't associate their new trucks with their awful old ones.

I was more angry with GM's deceit and outright lying to me..both dealer and corporate levels.

It might be a little cynical, but I agree with your point that Toyota needs some real competition in the segment. My wish is that GM does well with the diesel option mostly. I'd never actually buy a GM vehicle but Toyota feeling a little heat would be good.

Toyota needs to feel the heat so we can actually get a real truck from them. Not some economy truck with a car engine, plastic bed, and half-assed produced frame. I can see how a 11 year old designed Nissan Frontier is making a comeback in sales.

But that's what made them the reputation they enjoy today.

LOL. It's true the 20R and 22R were originally in the Celica as well as the Hilux/Pickup, so it was a car engine, and the truck was intended to be an economy option for people who couldn't afford a Land Cruiser.

But the rest of his statement is true, the frames on the 79-95 trucks were fully boxed, rated for 1 ton in some countries. In fact you could get a dually 2WD version that was a 1 ton here, too.

I loaded my '91 with landscape material above the bed rails many times and the only thing that suffered were the rear leafs, which I eventually fractured. But even that, it was the add-a-leafs that died, not the factory springs. The frame didn't care that it was used as a truck.

Agreed, my 91 hauled a lot of wood and flattened the leafs. Frame was solid

Had a buddy with a 1 ton duelly with a small cab over camper on it.... tiny but cool as hell.

I just got back from a cruise to the Bahamas I saw a new ranger parked as I got off the ship. It was actually pretty nice if they bring it here I'm sure it will do really well in the midsize market.

@crappie man I know you swapped out your tacoma for the Duramax Canyon or Colorado? How are you liking it? Where do you feel it was a step back from the Tacoma? I test drove the Duramax Colorado but think I would get the Canyon as I prefer the styling a bit more. I do think the interior design is nicer on the Tacoma. Obviously the performance/driving experience of the duramax is head and shoulders above the Tacoma because of the powertrain.

You'd pay that price tag for a midsize duramax diesel? Also I thought you did a lot of stuff offroad a Colorado/Canyon is nowhere near capable stock as a TRD OR.

My friend owns a GM dealership in AZ. He is the actual owner. I can get a great deal on one. If I mod the suspension and add tires/wheels, I should not be in any deeper than I was on my tacoma [39500 is what I paid OTD. MSRP was 39800]

@Tacoma_Jake he actually offered me to at least take one home for the weekend and drive it for a few days before I bought my tacoma. I turned him down because I told him I loved my old toyota and just wanted to go back to Toyota maybe this is karma biting me in the ass.

Will be interesting to see if Tacoma sales fall again next month. Maybe Toyota is sensing that they finally have some real competition (and more coming soon) and the TSB was a stop-gap measure.
