Will do. Been following the thread for a while and figured this is my best shot at fixing it. Done waiting for Toyota and when I saw the 19291 for $518 I couldn't resist. Should have it installed by 7/19.

just my $.02 on the 3rd gen V6 vibration issue...based on test driving 4 different 3.4 V6 2016's. On two different occasions, I drove:

    (first visit)
    2 different TRD's access cab

    (2nd visit)
    1 TRD Sport access cab
    1 SR5 double cab

all built in the San Antonio Tx plant

They all had noticeable vibration. The worst were the two TRD's, The least felt vibration was in the SR5 DC for whatever reason. It varied from truck to truck, RPM/intensity, etc. But it was there in all of them. That, in part was why I went with the 4 cylinder SR5 automatic. That little engine, though I can now see is woefully underpowered, is smooth running. I've come to the conclusion that Toyota doesnt offer an engine in the 2016 Tacoma lineup that I like. One is terribly weak, the other buzzy as hell.
I really should have looked at some used V6's with the older 4.0 , but needed to start with a fresh odometer, as I drive 28K year, and I was hellbent on getting a Tacoma for some reason..I think it is the "look" and reputation, so I really wanted one.
Anyway, I am hoping the 2017 lineup will have a fix for the 3.4 V6. Local Stealer told me they expect to see 2017 model deliveries in November.

But based on my test drives, I think its a drivetrain engineering problem causing the vibration, which means its fixable. Hope so, cause I'm trading off the smooth, but doggy I4 2.7 as soon as its economically feasible for me to do. If Toyota doesnt respond with a V6 fix, I will be looking at Colorados, or go full size.

Best of luck to everyone with the buzzy V6! Maybe Toyota will issue a recall if the problem is solved in the 2017 models, or at least a discounted trade up program.

I had the same problem between 1800-2100 RPM, read in other post and took to dealership who confirmed that factory was shipping out with low transmission fluid. They added 3/4 quart of transmission fluid and that fixed the problem. They did not know why some are like that, but have narrowed it down to the trucks with the towing package has larger transmission fluid capacity.

Holy Sweet Baby Jesus, thanks to the OP and 93 pages of posts sharing the knowledge. We were downsizing from our '07 Toyota Tundra TRD Double Cab (hello, bed-bounce issues that were ultimately deemed "working as designed") and I'd considered the Taco until this thread. Like OP, the wife drove a '17 Ridgie and loved it. I'm fine with it, as it fits our needs better that we're nearly 50 and no longer towing a racecar ( 10K towing capacity was great, but overkill for our future needs of mountain bikes and a dog.)
I feel for my fellow American-built Toyota sufferers on this thread, as I've spent more than enough time doinking with the Toyota service bureaucracy on the Tundra's ride / afterhshock issues, $4K of emissions equipment repair (thankfully under warranty), etc. Rested on their laurels for two gens IMHO and like this thread brings up... 'Murican adhesives & processes have not been kind to vehicles built here. Still love our RAV4 V6 AWD and S2000.
Turning our Tundra in to the dealer this week and picking up the RTL-E version. Seems like a less frustrating way to spend our $42K than on a DC Limited Taco. Best of luck finding a solution.

yeah, sadly I could not recommend a Tacoma to a friend, given the engine choices. Really too bad, because the truck itself seems rock solid, and nicely updated this year. Interior is outstanding. I asked the local dealer sales Mgr if he thought they would ever offer a V-8 in the Tacoma...he said no way. It would cut into Tundra sales.

So are we suspecting the vibration is being caused by sound (the exhaust note frequency)? Are the engine mounts still a possible cause? Anyone know if anything else is vibrating, such as the whole exhaust system or the engine?

Is there anything that can be placed on any of the steering components to mitigate the vibration?

I realize no one will have a definitive answer, but just looking for thoughts.

I think its most of the thread's opinion that its both engine mount and exhaust related (combination of both).

Nothing that we've experimented yet with to mitigate the vibes in the steering wheel...although I do know Toyota has a steering wheel dampener they used for the 2nd gen driveline vibration TSB. Maybe we'll see it used one day in ours.

Interesting observation: My 2nd gen did not have the pedal / wheel vibration. Two 3rd gen Tacoma's did and Toyota mitigated this with a 2016 4 Runner. I have not noted any of the Taco vibration problems at 7K in the 4R. I found the 3rd gen V6 under powered and I hope TMC will remedy the engine / trans issue. Looking FWD to 2017. Best wishes to all.

Magnaflow is getting delivered tomorrow morning, I'll have it on by noon before I head over four peaks and up to Roosevelt lake for the weekend. I'll give my review on vibration tomorrow or Friday.

I took mine in for an oil change and listed this as an issue...again. The service manager inmediately said, lets go drive another like yours, we took a base model DCSB v6 4x4 out. It drove pretty good but still had the vibration.. But it was more linear and not as intense. It was a broader range of rpms and because of this i could see being deemed Normal to other drivers. It follows the noise of the engine if that makes sense.

It just really stands out to us when everything is smooth and quiet and then BAM sharp, intense vibrations for 400rpms then smooth again.. And it doesnt help that they are at interstate cruising rpms.

About to put a lift and aggressive tires so i have vibrations all of the time! At least then it'll feel "normal." very dissapointed how intangible toyota corporate service..we have to go thru privately owned gatekeepers (dealerships) and if they dont witness it, it doesnt exist and stops there.

Im sure corporate uses a similar service to Salesforce that counts open cases, anyone know the inbox email. :)

2600 miles later and the buzz is no different than day 1. I notice it and wish it weren't there, but I'll be just fine driving the truck for another 15-20 years. Glad I didn't back out from buying it just because of the buzz. I also notice the same type of buzz above 3000 RPMs as I notice at 2200 RPMs. Between 2300 and 3000, everything is smooth.

My first impression of the Magnaflow 19291 is that it was louder than expected and did not really help with the steering wheel and gas pedal vibrations.

After driving it for about an hour I got used to the sound, which is throaty, v8-like, and if I'm playing music not enough drone to bother me. Starting to really like the sound and it does feel like there is a slight gain in HP. Butt dyno FTMFW.

Not sure why but the further I drove the more the vibrations seemed to subside. It may be because now that my truck is louder, I'm more accepting of the vibrations? They did seem to get better the further I drove so I'm going to post another update Monday after I'm back from my lake trip.

Good vibes, bring in only good vibes :rasta:

I noticed with my catback that the frequency per se changed a bit. It was more of a rumble rather than a full on buzz. But it was still a buzz. Especially 5th or 6th gear at 2100 RPM I also noticed it became slightly less in other certain gears (I have a manual). But it's still there albeit a little bit less. I don't consider it a fix, not for the price of a catback.

Personally after driving other 2016's and feeling the same issue, I have given up on it. Toyota messed up on the management/design decisions and allowed, for whatever reason, unacceptable vibration to be transmitted through the chassis. I changed my driving style and shift points to keep me out of that range as much as possible.

I feel for you auto guys that have no choice.

This. I have the MT as well. I have found that at 2500 Rpms it is smooth and I am in the torque. I just choose to stay at that rpm whenever possible.

I don't really understand that last statement. I have an auto but hardly ever in that rev range. That is something I never understood about OP. He said it was a problem on trips with hands, feet going numb. Why was he driving in that rev range all the time? Done plenty of long trips and didn't spend much time.in the offend rev range.
