They could have done a better job packaging it. I guess I will try spraying paint or undercoating before it rusts. Too bad it's in such a visible area as it won't match the wrinkle coating very well.

Judging by how easy the powder coating is flaking off where it was scraped during transit, I don't think it was prepped very well before being coated.

Yeah, mine had quite a few areas similar to that. While it was damaged by fedex it is up to the shipper to ensure proper packaging. I watched the fed ex guy drag it the length of the truck to unload it then helped him carry it up the drive. I'm guessing they get drug like that frequently, especially when transferring trucks dragging them across the pavement.

Should get some old grease jugs from local restaraunts and slice up, while the plastic alone isn't enough some sort of additional layer that is not paper or foam would serve well.

The FedEx guy did that to mine as well. Not packaged very well at all where it was being dragged.

I would imagine the biggest cost savings on these is the powder coating.

It wouldn't take much to strip it, I"d almost bet a grinder with a wire wheel on it and a few putty knives you could stirp it down in 2 hours. It's flaky and not very scratch resistant so definitely not the selling point. I think most assumed this already though.

Once it's mounted up and issues resolved, I'll probably spend a weekend redoing it. Otherwise it will probably match the frame after a full winter

I wish these side pieces were available. $250 is ridiculous for them I feel.

Question for you guys, I notice that when installing these plate bumpers the two braces that hold the skid plate are removed. Do you think this affects the strength of the front end and also this also leaves the underneath open until an after market skid is fitted. do you think this matters.

I've actually been considering that with aluminum. Not sure what it would cost me though. Coud reverse engineer this reverse engineered bumper.

Could cut all the pieces out on a water-jet, modify the tolerances to fit the way I want it to.

My work would probably rape me on pricing though lol. Doubt it would be worth it in the long run.

Just remember you'll have to TIG aluminum.

Yeah, we do some but not a lot of aluminum work so have everything needed. Haven't talked to the welder to see if he has a tig at home or not. Probably have him weld in the cab mount plates when the time comes to chop them.

Just because it's aluminum does not require tig welding... you can use a wire feeder with a spool gun

Edit: After a little research (and being a welder myself) I just found out there's even 4043 aluminium rod for stick welding. I've been welding on off since freshman year of highschool and never knew that

I considered this, and even bought an arc welder. The real issue is cutting out the pieces accurately. Aluminum would be far easier to cut, but harder to weld.

Good to know. I always thought aluminum = TIG.
