I have some friends asking me why I didn't go with 2 10's... Lol maybe we'll have to do a trade sometime in the future?

 

IMHO 2-10" will give you better base response than 1-12" if you are going with a good quality sub. The bass will be tighter and the response will be faster because of the tighter throw in a 10".

I listen to mostly rap and hip hop so the lower frequency would be nice for me with the larger woofer. I think I'm going to try to stuff a bit more pollifill in my boxes to make them think they are in a larger box and see if that helps

If you need a schematic for the JBL system on your 3rd gen. @JasonT87 I'll see if I could find you some tomorrow while I'm at work. Hopefully they have information released on them by now. I'll get you everything you need even the wiring for the backup cam. They overcomplicated this system, that is for sure.

Based on the coloring of the wires and even the stock sub/ amp box it looks very similar to what the late 2nd gens were.

 

Dude thank you! I just need the speaker wiring at the JBL amp because I'm gonna be doing the wiring for my amp/LOC when the enclosure comes in. That would be super helpful!

No the Polly makes the sub think it is in a larger air space.

 

Bad news @JasonT87 . I checked Alldata earlier this morning for a schematic on JBL systems and found absolutely nothing. That information is not available yet. At least schematics. Can you possibly take a closer picture of the 3 amplifier plugs so I can take a look at the colors of all the wires for the plugs?

 

Ive always used PolyFill and i swear it makes a big difference.

When Polyfill is added to your enclosure, the airspring within the box begins an isothermal process. When the air passes through the Polyfill it is scattered and dissipated by the fibers, causing the air to be less dense. The speaker then interacts with the enclosure as if it is larger than it really is, changing the sound.

Often times you’ll either build or buy an enclosure for your equipment and it will be just a tad too small. In these cases you can easily add some Polyfill to the box to increase the effectiveness of yoursubwoofer. As long as you are within the manufacturers suggested box volume specs, a larger enclosure is more efficient than a smaller one no matter what size the driver is. Having a large enclosure gives you more options; if your subwoofer enclosure is too small, there isn’t much you can do except build or buy a new one.

On a more negative note, too much Polyfill can prevent your speakers or sub woofers from producing audio at their full potential. Obviously overstuffing the enclosure will restrict the linear movement of the sub and make the quality of the audio sound extremely muffled. Too much also decreases the effective dampening of the speaker which would allow it to bottom out. Polyfill is also not appropriate for every application – if your enclosure is already bigger than the manufacturer suggests, polyfill isn’t needed and could actually negatively impact the sound.

 

Great thread bro! I currently have the stock entune unit, alpine type R speakers and an 8 " kicker hideaway sub underneath my front seat. I might just get the two 10s and an amp for the added bass!

You can't get a closer shot of each plug possibly? Or did you put all the panels back in. A lot of those colors look similar except the subwoofer wires which appear to be pink and gray or blue now which used to be red wires with yellows IIRC.
