    Hi guys,

    I need some advice.

I currently own a 2003 single cab base model, manual transmission, 2.7 ltr. Its 4wd but no cruise control, tachometer, anything, etc. Very basic. Truck is mechanically sound and I love it for what it is. It has 138k miles. I have taken good care of it. Its my 2nd vehicle. Usually use it for truck stuff when my car wont suffice so amenities arent a big deal.

In my town a 2004 double cab TRD has popped up for sale with 155k miles. Has a new camper shell. I have always lusted after more room in the interior. Has 155k miles. Owner seems to have taken pretty good care of it. Synthetics, service records, etc. He is asking 12k for it.

In my area Tacoma's are very sought after so I am sure it wont last long.

I havent driven the truck yet but will tomorrow or tonight. Just looking for opinions from owners who own either of preferably have driven both. Thank you in advance for any feedback you can give.

Single cab vs dbl is more personal preference. Whatever suits your needs. Remember that with a dbl cab your gona loose quite a bit of pan. Thats why i think the ext cab is the best of both worlds being able to carry 4 people (its honestly more comfortable than alot of 2 door cars) and you have the longer bed.

How in the world do you fit 4 people in an extra cab? I can fit 2 up front and 1 in the back, but they have to sit sideways to let their legs have enough room. Even then, it ain't comfy.

Even my 6'2" fatass can sit back there without turning sideways :notsure: with plenty of headroom. Ive actually had 3 people in the back before (NOT comfortably!)

OP...Are you willing to lose cargo space? If you're using your current truck for "truck stuff," then the shorter bed might not be a good choice.

I have an Extracab, but originally wanted the double cab. I'm glad I got the Extracab with the longer bed. I use the bed a lot. I know I would've gotten pissed off many many times if I had the shorter bed.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Do it! I like regular cabs, but they are so impractical as a daily driver. There's a reason you rarely see regular cab trucks anymore.

Sometimes I wish I had a longer bed, sometimes I'm extremely grateful for having 4 doors. You can fix the bed space issue with a bed extender, but you can't exactly make more room in a reg cab.

Personally, I carry more people than cargo, so the DCSB setup is perfect. If I carried more stuff than people, I'd have gotten an Extra-cab with the long bed. Either way, I'd still have a cap on it, which limits what kind of stuff you can haul.

Also, you didn't indicate if you need 4WD or if the 2004 TRD is or not. Lots of personal choices that only you can make, predicated upon your particular situation.

I have both. I Love both of them lol. Double cab is a lot more comfortable to drive. More power, longer wheelbase, can tow. Regular cab gets better mpg, haul more cargo/weight in the bed. The regular cab is going to be more dependable. No trans cooler, no timing belt to change, manual transfer case, manual windows, locks etc. I've had more issues with my 2002 double cab with 150k miles than my 98 regular cab with 225k miles.

The only thing I miss from my extra cab is the longer bed. It was a awesome truck, I just like my double cab more :D

Originally, I wanted the double cab because of my 2 daughters. They were 7 and 3 at the time. Were were coming from an '89 regular cab Toyota 2wd, and only 3 of us can be in it. So we needed a bigger truck so that all 4 of us could be in it. The things that stopped me from getting the double cab:
    - not a manual (the main reason)
    - short bed
    - the wife (She hated the way the short bed looked.)

The extracab was bigger than what we were replacing, so any more space was a bonus. Plus, we had my wife's car for more room. As the kids got bigger, they adjusted to the space. No big deal. They'll still get in the back without saying anything as they know that that's just the way it is. And they're 23 (5'6") & 19 (5'3") yrs old with their own truck/car. Hell...even my younger one's 6'1" boyfriend gets in the back.

I opted for a double cab and just bought a small trailer if I need to move things. like White Monster said, it's your choice. just think what you will be doing the most with the truck. have fun with it either way!

The reason is consumers want SUVs and crew cab trucks even though 95% of the time they will be used for a single-occupant commute to work. Car makers produce what people want to buy, not what they realistically need.
