Hello. I have a 2016 Tacoma with the JBL radio system and nav. I am really enjoying it so far but the truck is a month old so I am still learning all it's features. I was wondering if anyone has had an issue with phone call static while using the iPhone 6s on bluetooth. I have gotten comments from people on the other side saying it is difficult to hear me. I just had the truck in for the 1k service and they were able to duplicate the issue. The tech said he connected his android phone and it was crystal clear. They are saying it is a problem with the iPhone??? The phone is fairly new and does not have the issue on other vehicles. Any comments, ideas would be much appreciated.

No issues so far here with a iPhone 6s and the EntunePremium system...(might be a step down from yours). I didnt get any package
for technology or anything like that so it's not the top of the line system..one notch below.

We have the typical somewhat incompatible features that iPhones have with just about any car/truck but thats
the way it is with those....

Even if you set it to state the callers/texters name on a call or message it refuses to state their name.
It just says "Incoming call" or "Text message" etc - no description.
While I'm sure Toyota is aware of this its on my list to file a comment with Toyota since it's annoying.

There might be a setting for that, that you need to enable. I recall doing something that turned that on. It's been awhile, but perhaps this will encourage you to dig deeper.

As for the iPhone6, bluetooth. Works quite well for me, at speed, windows down.

I have had music issues with the BT signal being garbled. I find that if I get out on the road, it goes away. I also ask my wife not to leave her iPhone BT on as the Taco picks up her BT before mine, EVEN WHEN I'M SITTING IN THE TRUCK AND HER PHONE IS 40FT AWAY!! Go figure?

My system is a step down, Entune, non JBL.

I will say my iPhone6 GPS has been wonky lately. The device has been dropped a few times (3rd screen), and I use it bareback, so I'm sure its related. If you're phone is new enough, try a visit to Apple store. You never know.

So your Entune announces calls/texts by the person's name?
Unless I can find someone with the exact same setup/phone as me, there are too many variables. Maybe we have the same.....Hmm.

I work in IT and pretty good at setting these things (and phones) up. I really dont think I missed anything.
I even defaulted the unit and reset it up from scratch as a trial. I went through each and every screen.

My iPhone6s is up-to-date and I got it about 3 months ago. Since I have an apple developer account I tend to run beta versions of iOS but right now I'm holding off on iOS10 and just running 9.3.2.

My RAM iPhone integration broke from 9.0 to 9.1 ...just a sub release and things stopped working until MOPAR released new uConnect software.

Once I pair a Samsung S7 to the HU I will see how it works 'as-is' with texts and calls...if that works, then its yet another
incompatible issue with Apple and car makers...

I have no problems with connection quality with my iPhone. Texts come in and are read by the truck perfectly. Replying via the Siri button is also surprisingly easy and accurate.

Siri is fine. Some of the stuff works better with Android in cars but Siri essentially makes up some of the loss.
My texts/calls come in fine....the display shows the CALL or TEXT with the person's name but the voice only says "New Text" or "Incoming Call" - she has never said the 'name' of the caller.

If it works elsewhere, then either I have a different HU software level or the fact that I am on 9.3.2 iOS. I did try it on 9.3.3 initially and it failed just as it does on 9.3.2 (of course 9.3.3 isnt released yet).

I might try iOS10 this weekend for fun. No matter what vehicle I have had, unless I use an Android they are all crippled to some extent.
My last Honda had Car Play but you need to physically connect the phone for all of that to work. Seemed odd to me.

    :)

Wow thanks for all the responses. So it seems that for some reason Apple may have some compatibility issues with cars and their software? I haven't even gotten as far as most in this thread. I am just trying at this time to get a cell phone conversation on the truck's bluetooth to be clear enough to carry on. I wonder why some have success and others do not?

I contacted Toyota saturday to discuss SMS 'initial spoken' issues I have and they grabbed my VIN and tested out my issue using the exact radio model I have.
They verified the firmware/software levels on my Entune (up to date) and we compared iOS software revisions as well.
I was actually pretty impressed at what this rep did for me.

It announces incoming calls via name but not when texts arrive....The name is left off of the initial announcement.
Apple+Toyota is hit/miss with what works and what doesn't.

Overall if you have an up-to-date phone and truck things *should* work for the most part.
You CANNOT have the system 'reply' to any text w/o using SIRI - known issue for every car maker I've personally tested with when using Apple. My Ram would work with an HTC android yet fail with a similar release of a Motorola Razr.

Toyota seems to have come pretty far and I'm impressed. While not a big Android fan, I am working on getting a S7 to play
with and trial out on the Entune and see what the differences are......

So it it "fixed" then? If not, try deleting the phone pairing on the truck and phone and re-pair the two. Solved a lot of issues I was having.

I can see a trend happening here with the iPhone. I am a Volvo technician and we are seeing major problems with the new XC90 and iPhone over Bluetooth connection.
You have customers paying $60-70k for the vehicle and cant have text messages displayed in the head unit or drivers display when connected via Bluetooth.

I have a iPhone 6s+ with the JBL system. I haven't had any issues with call quality.

My text messages were displaying and I was able to have the system read them to me but for some reason they stopped.

Got to love it...this is why things are so RANDOM for people.
Removing (totally) the Bluetooth setup in the Entune and iPhone and restarting from scratch can help many times but not always.
Anytime the iPhone or Entune is updated, it is recommended to do the above.

I have an iPhone 6s+ with the JBL system and have no problems at all. When I use it through the truck, I do speak a little louder so I know the person on the other line can for sure hear me good!

Make sure the app always connects when you get in. Sometimes mine does and sometimes it doesn't. When the app doesn't connect it won't read me my messages.

I tried that once before, total removal and reset up, but I will try again and see if it helps. Got to love modern technology. Interesting comment from Abrams65. Thanks for sharing.

It was kind of funny when I first got mine there were so many options on the unit. I was driving and trying to type in an address to look at a roofing job and it wouldn't let me push destination or a bunch of other buttons so I had to use voice control which finally heard me correctly and I though my truck was broke. I didn't know that a lot of the buttons (including text) wouldn't display or let you push them until your stopped not moving!

That's the most obvious thing and the one thing I didn't think about. I usually just hit ignore when it pops up on my phone display. I'll check it out and see if that solves it.
