Was under my truck doing an oil change last weekend and noticed a dripping rear shock.

Will report back what dealer says when I get chance to make it over there.

This isn't surprising at all. The shocks that Toyota uses on these trucks are worth like $5.

No kidding. Yellow Bilstein has more in paint than shock oil.

Can't let my desert buddies get a look at the pune front toothpicks.

Concord? I'm in San Jose. Maybe see you at Hollister some time.

You got it man. I'm always up for some wheeling bearing that I have the time off to do so. I ditched my shocks in a hurry when I bought my truck and I have been very happy with the decision ever since. The stockers are ridiculously cheap and I have seen them break before just hitting a oversized pothole.

EDIT: What kind of offloading are you doing OP? The stuff that I get into here mostly is sand/clay/mud small hills nothing too crazy. I'm only asking because that is crazy to see a noticeably affected* shock.

Why is the blue shock cover all bent up? You sure this was a part failure on it's own?

Better yet, get some new 5100's and have the dealer swap them out for you if you can't do the work yourself. I swapped out from the stock Bilstein in less than 1k miles.

Both of my rear Hitachi shocks were replaced at 33K miles due to a similar oil leak

    Bent up? Came that way.

Has not been off road at all, or any situation that would have bent the blue cover, or blown the shock. Heck, have not even loaded the bed with any weight, unless 40# of aluminum can blow a shock.

I rebuild race shocks, King and others. Had a full tubed Ranger front to rear with 28" travel on a three link, and 16.5" travel up front on Bronco beams/4wd. Mention that as I have a good idea of what a shock can or can't take before blowing. This shock was defective from Bilstein.

Posted pics so others would check as it's a safety issue. Oscillating springs can cause loss of control.

    I love my tuck = ]
