Well, I read through this thread and couldn't help but email Bob about one of the GNTX-453 series mirrors.
Looking forward to literally ALL of the features. Especially the Homelink, I hate searching for the garage door opener every morning and evening.

When you're crimping and soldering the 2 wires running from the temp sensor and the 2 wires running from the rear view mirror, does it matter which ones you're connecting?

Is it just 2 crimps, it doesn't matter which 2 wires you choose....?

 

It doesn't matter which two wires from the mirror mate to the other two wires from the probe. There's no polarity.

 

I believe so. At least that's what I did. But if you want to know for sure, shoot Bob an email. He's super helpful and super responsive. Lord knows I bugged the crap outta him when I bought mine.

 

I was really pleased with the outcome! So much nicer having the temp right there and NOT having to rely on the head unit to 'gather data' when checking the current weather

 

One thing I had a question about, it seems the mirror is having a hard time reaching the garage sensor for opening/closing the garage door... is that because of the monitor location in my garage orrr........

Mine works like a champ with an older Genie. Has better range than the one that came with the opener.

 

Does your motor have an antenna wire?! Maybe make sure that's not messed up or anything like that. Can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't work. And I have the same experience as @syswalla :

I don't believe so, just everything that came stock on the Taco I haven't messed with putting a CB in or anything yet.
Maybe I'll shoot Bob an email here in the coming week. I just have to get REAL close to my garage and can't back in to use it

Oh, yeah there's a receiver in the garage I moved it as close as I could to the garage door... my transmitter gets better signal than the mirror.... hmm I'll tinker with it tomorrow. I still count the day a success since I finally got to install it

 

Did anyone order a mirror with the amber colored LED?

Do you wish you got the blue instead?

I think I want amber, but don't want it to look off in the cab.

 

My Auto-Dim/Compass/Temp/Backup Camera/Homelink rear-view mirror (Gentex Model GHSHL4) arrived today. Install and setup took about 15 minutes. (The Auto-Dim/Compass/Temp/Backup Camera mirror it replaced is posted for sale here.)

I ended up ordering the GTX-455 from Bob and paid $139 including shipping. The mirror is only AutoDim/Temp/GPS. But it's all I wanted, and it has a slimmer profile than the ones with HomeLink IMHO.

Awesome product and the install took 90 minutes. Like most people mentioned, the hardest part is running the temp wire through the FW.

Can't believe my 2015 didn't come from the factory with at least an ambient temp gauge.
