I had the same problem, the parts person got a set of 2004 shoes for my Tacoma and they had the correct parking brake pin hole. I have a 2003, but 2004 shoes worked!!

This thread is probably dead, but here goes...

This brake job has become a job from Hell. I have replaced my shoes and all the associated hardware. Everything is exactly where it needs to be and assembled correctly.

I adjusted the shoes like I always do, very slight drag, evenly on both sides. My right rear shoes progressively adjust until the wheel is basically locked. The wheel cylinders move freely and are free of corrosion.

My parking brake cables are completely free of corrosion, and I have backed it off quite a bit.

Any suggestion? I have had this thing apart 4 times, but I just can't figure it out. I have replaced more brake shoes than I can remember, but this is a new one on me.

That's an odd one. I changed my shoes & drums recently & all went ok. Did you do one side at a time so you could check yourself as you re assembled? Those little springs that keep the adjuster arm anchored can be put on a couple of ways seem like. Problem Must be the right side adjusting arm stop. Making it .get a full "click" when it does not need it.Could you have gotten the adjuster screw assemblies switched. Don't know as I'm talking from memory & that's scary.

Prerunner and 4x4 should not make a difference in brakes. They are literally the same truck, just one has a transfer case ext.

Start a new thread like "rear brake shoes locking up after shoes replaced"...Somebody has had this problem before I think.

Thanks to you both for your input. I am certain I installed the springs and the adjuster correctly, I took a picture before I began.

I have searched this forum as well as I was able to, although my navigation skills leave a lot to be desired sometimes. I will probably just start a new thread on this. I am willing to bet it is something brutally simple, but I just can't nail it down.
