Mine was almost 2 quarts low. I asked for it to be checked before i took delivery, when i broight it back 2 weeks later for vent visors, then at a different dealership, and finally to a 3rd dealership who did actually check it at 3k miles after i got a case number. Symptoms persisted, so i got another case number. They checked it again and said thats just how it is. Corporate said they would not give me an extended warranty; that it's on the dealer. The dealer said they wont give me a warranty because Toyota has said that their transmissions are robust enough that running 2 quarts low wouldnt have hurt it...

Nothing fancy, yet. Weathertech mats front/back + their mud guards, some reflective striping and custom carpets on the storage bin lids underneath the jump seats.
That's just goofy. If one operated an engine of theirs low on oil by a proportionate amount (about 1.2 quarts for a V6 w/towing package), they would cry neglect.

I hope you got that in writing . If you dont have it in writing , go back to the dealer and get that statement in writing to cover your @ss .
2 quarts low is an awful lot of transmission fluid to be low . Yes the transmission will function even with 2 quarts missing as it is a brand new transmission with nice tight tolerances , however , the damage and additional heat created from the missing fluid wears the transmission out prematurely .Transmission failure doesn't occur overnight with low fluid , it takes time . Transmissions are designed to function with a proper fluid level " PERIOD "
You operated your truck for 3k with low fluid . How much damage was done to the transmission ? Toyota doesnt know how much damage was done to your truck while you ran with low fluid . They have to disassemble the transmission to find out .
Open another case with corp and cry bloody murder .
How does the transmission work now that it has been filled correctly ? Are the symptoms persisting now ?
If the symptoms went away after the transmission was finally filled , you have a strong case against corporate
There are many testimonials throughout this thread showing what other members did to get corporate to extend the warranty .
Have you read through some of it ?

I was more active in the thread a while ago, guess i should catch up. The symptoms are pretty much still there. I had 2 case numbers with corporate already, guess it's time to open a third. I also just got a case of schaeffers atf to have the trans serviced with. At 6k miles now and i dont want to take any chances...

I've been struggling with the results of the poll.

    upload_2016-7-11_15-11-22.jpg

Either a respondent had low fluid, or they didn't. So line 1 and 2 should add up to 100%.

If lines 3 and 4 are intended to be a breakdown of where the low fluid trucks were built, then they should also add up to 100%. If they are supposed to compare the number of "trucks built in the US with low fluid" with "trucks built in the US with normal fluid", well, that's a different question.

The overall picture is clear, lots of trucks were low, but due to the fact that up to two choices are allowed in the poll (some low fluid respondents may have checked line 2 only, some may have checked line 3 or 4 only, and some may have checked lines 2 and 3 or 4), the actual values become skewed.

Well, 3 and 4 add up to 189 which is roughly equal to 184, so I think most people got the idea and checked 2 and then 3 or 4. Looks like only 5 people went straight to 3 or 4 without checking 2.

So out of 264 assumed respondents 189 were low, 75 were ok. That's 71.6% low, 28.4% properly filled. Not good!

Breaking the Tejas vs Mehico deal, that's 189 total votes. 110 were Mexican built, 58.2%, and 79 were US built, 41.8%. So roughly half and half but slightly favoring US built to be properly filled.

(I agree it kinda is annoying how the poll chalks up results but it's trying to track all 4 as separate responses... think "red, blue, green, and yellow" as being responses, not "blue, and if it was red, was it dark red or light red")

======WARNING STATISTICS CONTENT BELOW======WARNING SERIOUSLY NERDY SHIT BELOW===============

So we've got a sort of conundrum here. Our sample size is actually large enough to be statistically significant and reasonably accurate, assuming a population of 95,000 trucks (I'm taking this number from YTD sales as of the end of June).

Assuming a 95% confidence level and a 6% confidence interval (that is, plus or minus 6% of all Tacos having low fluid or not) we would need a sample size of 266 for statistical significance. We've got 264, which is close enough.

With this sample you could conclude that roughly speaking, somewhere between 77% and 65% of trucks out there are low on fluid. That's bad, real bad. The relative even split between US and Mexico makes me think it's a process control issue, not a certain factory.

I'm a bit reluctant though to preach this as gospel because we do have a definite sampling bias. I had my fluid checked because of what I saw on here- I had no symptoms, and my fluid was properly filled. What we don't know is whether respondents were symptomatic (had rough shifting) or asymptomatic (only got it checked because of reading TW). This sort of deep sixes any good statistical analysis.

The statistics may not be purely scientific but they are representative enough to show beyond a fact Toyota has a quality problem when building their trucks at both their plants in Mexico and the USA. Now the question is how long it will take them to listen to acknowledge the facts from their buyers and react in a decisive positive manner? W

We are listening and waiting Toyota the more you delay the more present and future sales you loose!

Some excellent analogies here lol .
Its my fault .....When I started the poll , all I had listed was if your truck was low on fluid or not .
A few months later while we were trying to determine what factory was causing the low fluid issue , we added the manufacturer,s location in an effort to determine if one of the two factories was the root cause .
As you can see now , its clear that both plants are still sending trucks to dealerships low on fluid with build dates in June of 2016 .
They know about the problem but refuse to rectify it at the factory level ?????????????????

Edit . I will add that the AC60F ( 4x4 ) fill procedure has now been downloaded 1,176 times . With this in mind , there are many who download the file and have their fluid checked without reporting to the poll . The file is available to anyone who views the thread whether or not they are a member of TW

Strange that the Vehicle Stability Control system would prevent the transmission from going into gear ?
Not really sure the VSC has any control over the transmission .
Thanks for posting this . Gives me something to research

gearchruncher, just to add another monkey in your statistics it would be interesting to know what percentage of vehicles with low transmission fluid are those that come with the tow package which adds and extra transmission cooler if I'm not mistaken?

@gearcruncher i think my previous post was deleted from another thread.

I've been reading a number of low trans fluid posts, and is it me or do I see a trend with 99% of them being 4x4 trucks?
