This is obviously going to be a guess/estimation, but how much will a new or slightly used 2016 TRD sport, 4 door, 4x4 Tacoma $cost$ in 2018 or at least a couple years down the road?

Depending on mileage and options I'm going to say mid to high $20k. Just did a KBB on my 06 Access OR with 80'K and come up with $14K

Depends on mileage, tech package? My 2011 AC 4WD was worth $25k in 2014, my 2015 DCLB 4WD Sport was worth $30k in 2016, Tacoma's still hold their value and the 16 looks to be holding even more of a percentage of original MSRP. I would bet a 2016 TRD Sport 4WD DC would be $28-30k with average miles come 2018, it retains 74.9% of its value in 3 years and 60.4% after 5. So a $36k Sport would be worth $27k in 2019.

I would hope that the new body style with the options available would hold it's value a little better than gen 2's. I looked at a lot of trucks before I purchased mine. F150's take a huge loss in value, I looked at a 2016 GMC the day before I purchased, it was a fully loaded crewcab 4x4 that listed new for $55,000 new. It had 7100 miles and the dealer was asking $41,000. Toyotas hold thier value better than any other brand. A 2013 Sport 4x4 crewcab in the St. Louis area is priced around $3000 - $4000 less than you could have purchased it new from the dealer. I would guess in 3 years my 2016 should be valued in the $32,000 - $33,000 range.

In all honesty, if you want a new Tacoma down the road, they hold their value so good you could just pay a couple more thousand to get a new one. Before my parents bought me mine, they were looking around a 2012 in good shape with not a lot of miles, and they all costed around $28k. Then I saw the all new 2016s and begged for one, and they decided they would rather pay a few more thousand for a brand new truck since we know how it's been treated. I wanted the sport with the hood scoop which was around $36k and they agreed, then after a lot more begging and convincing I finally got them to order me one with the premium tech with JBL package so it ended up at $40k. So really we could have saved around $14k but you wouldn't have to get the most expensive package and stuff like I did, you could just get the base sport and wouldn't regret it!

I can't even estimate what will happen tomorrow. But good luck with that 2 year forecast.

FWIW... I have a AC/LB and they do not hold their value as well as a DC.

I don't have back seat riders and wanted an AC this time.

Maybe if you have the tech package, even so $39k at 74.9% is $29k bud. Highly doubt your truck will get $33k in 3 years.

I paid $36,400 for a truck with an msrp of $39,100. A 2012 that listed for $34,000, purchased for $32,500 just sold for $29,000. A friend bought it new, put 42,000 miles on it and it had the basic options. I would like to think that a loaded 2016 DC OR 4X4 would be in the low 30s.

Can hope, wish, think all you want but the Tacoma resale numbers are 74.9% after 3 years, 60.4% after 5 that's fact. I've owned 5 of them, only losing $6k over 3 years is a stretch for any vehicle. Especially since you can get them for $2-3k off msrp new.

I will bet you a cold beer and a steak dinner that it's worth closer to $32k than it is to $29k in 3 years.

I bet you my truck and bike on it in 3 years its worth $30k. Like I said I've owned 5 of them, not new to Tacomas, selling them, buying them, trading them, etc.

Holy shit, bets on. Take good care of my truck. Where do you live? I'm thinking of shipping costs or how much a steak dinner is going to cost .

Market price is one thing. What a bank will loan or what insurance will pay on a total may be another.

For a guess like this I'd ask my banker or agent about depreciation. If it winds up better than they predict, you're ahead.

The question sounds like you're trying to figure out a lease. Just remember that a predicted value by the dealer is not the same as a guarantee. And like a card dealer for the house, they don't care about you.

Well, the fact that Toyota's hold their value better than any other brand may be true, but by how much is slightly skewed. It shouldn't be relative to MSRP, it should be relative to price paid for the vehicle. A GMC is not a 55k truck. It is not uncommon to see ford, Chevy, gmc offer 10k+ off of MSRP with rebates and a little negotiation. Good luck getting anywhere near that on a Tacoma.

True but your still getting less of a hit when it comes time for resale/trade, as even though you got less of a discount new, it still is worth more used and thus you lost less money over the time of ownership.

    OP, I was just thinking.

Check "24 or 36 mo. end lease" values on KBB & Edmund and etc.

Agreed. According to kbb, trade value on my Silverado is $1500 more than I paid for it brand new after rebates and negotiating.
