Tried searching the forum to find what I was looking for and seemed to have fallen short on info. With that being said which is better for recovery, factory OR hook or the bpf bracket/shackle? Just trying to look for a better option than the factory one on my sport.

If you have easy access to the factory option (junk yard, etc), grab it.

If not, a shackle is the preferred option.

I put on an OR tow hook because I like the simplicity of just putting a recovery strap onto the hook. I haven't had to use it yet, but it's beefy. With a shackle, you can securely mount a winch cable with a link end - I, and most of my friends, use a hook on the winch cable so there wouldn't be much benefit to the shackle.

I like the simplicity of the factory hook as well. Just didn't know if there was any added benefit to the bpf setup.

I don't see spending $100 on a change that isn't that much different from the original.

The original is thin and wont fit a decent sized shackle. SOS makes one too.

Make your own Mounts to use a 3/4" in shackle .

I purchased the TRD OR hook at my local dealer, wasn't to much but it was also four years ago and now resides on the third 2nd Gen Tacoma. Lol... It will eventually go on a 3rd Gen.

Just remember you need the longer bolts also if you go that route.

I used to have pics of the part numbers but now can't find them.

I did find these though. Good luck on your hunt.

I picked up an OR hook from a board bro so it'll be at the house waiting on me once I return from my deployment. Just gotta find part #s for the bolts and I'll be set.
