Good luck getting that. I paid $34k for my new Silverado in 2014 (4WD Doublecab, Z71, all star package, etc.) was $10k off of sticker. When I went to trade it in on my 2015 Tacoma 6 months later, $29k even though KBB told me $32k or something like that.

Try leasing a Ford or Gm compared to Toyota . Thier residuals are very low. To get to a comparable lease paymemt on a Ford you have to put at least twice as much down. A dealer in St. Louis was running a $359 lease on a base f150 crew cab, but the down payment was $4900.

His self described whining shows that he's not actually pulled on his big boy panties yet. Apparently Mommy and Daddy haven't shown him where they are. Or told him it's time to wear them. So, just hanging out in pampers with a silver spoon.

There are tools to hedge against all those factors such as Gap insurance, closed leases etc.

For what it's worth, I would absolutely not buy a used taco under 5 years old over a brand new one; as purely as a financial exercise - it's nonsense unless you're emotionally attached to the G2.

Ask a Toyota dealer to generate a lease based on 24mo, 12k miles a year and add back 15pct for retail markup and adjust for regional demand as prices vary by zip code. That's the best estimate.

That seems like a good number.

Curious what were the conditions of the guarantee? Things like miles allowed, vehicle cosmetic conditions, required dealer services, etc.

I have sold 5 low mileage, excellent condition GM trucks in the past and have gotten close to high book for all of them. Not a GM fanboy,I have had 7 Toyotas and many other brands, just stating my experience. You probably could have negotiated a better deal on the Z71. I do agree though,Tacomas depreciate very little in the first few years. You can usually get a new Tacoma for just a few thousand more than a 2-3 year old one.

Currently my truck is worth approx $4k more than I paid for it according to KBB. Hopefully it keeps holding value like that for the next few years.

Understand the point, but that's kind of using a broad brush for a modest percentage of conditions.

I bought my '13 in the fall of '14 ('15's were out, so 2 model years old) for $10k less than the same model new would have been. And there was only 8k miles on the truck, and of course the balance of all the warranty, etc.

It's exactly what I wanted in terms of color, body, driveline and accessories. I don't drive it many miles per year, generally around 5k.

I fully intend to keep it until

    a) a deserving grandson wants to buy it (8-10 years)
    b) I likely no longer need a truck to haul project stuff, bikes and kayaks (10-20 years)
    c) life changes enough we only need one vehicle, and it's not a truck
    d) I should seriously consider giving up driving and letting the 'home' shuttle me around to appointments (20+ years)

For any of those it will be at 100k miles or less.

So in my case, spending an extra $10k would have gotten me nothing, other than a lighter wallet. :D

Every vehicle will cost you money, you will just lose a lot less if you stay away from the big 3.

Same as any other standard lease:
12,000 mi/yr, maintain full coverage insurance, and no wear/tear above the usual/customary. That's just my residual.

Just sold my 2011. Got $5000 less than I paid for it five years ago. I put 60,000 miles on it. At the end, ended up with a really nice down payment on my new 2016 .

When I first began looking at Tacomas, there were 2 Silver 2013 TRD DC OR 4x4 Tacomas with 50-60k miles on each for $33k. Yep, 33k and one had a crack in the front fascia where it likely popped another vehicle. Tacomas prices, here, are higher than a Halloween cat's back. I hope mine holds its value that well, but more than likely it is just like Jeep Wranglers...they only hold their value when they are selling to you, not when you are selling to them... lol

And by the way, they bought me it because it was my 16th birthday and I am at the top of my class with a perfect 4.0 GPA. I don't know what I have done to you to make you mad, it sounds like your parents needed to pamper you a little more. No need to be jealous!
