Low mpg, high heat in engine and transmission. I'd stay 4.10 if you have long drives to make.

I think I remember him saying close to 2500 rpm at 60 mph (it might have been 65). Currently I'm over 70 well before that.

4.56 might be good if your heavy and towing, otherwise unless your rock crawling, I think you will be a little overgeared on 33's. I'm on 35s auto and have 4.56, I have full armor and a cap, and usually have a fair amount of tools and gear on my bed and my truck runs 2100ish around 65mph.

With 35's, I'm at about 2500 rpms at 60 mph. Add a couple hundred rpms if you are on 33's.

I'm currently at about 2800 at 75 with 33's and stock gears. I never drive faster than 75 with all my gear. I have never weighed my camping gear but all of it including a cap I would say I'm running at least 1000 pounds. The fwc I'm looking at dry is about 1000 add 50 gal of water 10 fuel then all the gear etc it adds up quick. I don't want to spend 1500 and under gear but the camper is down the line. I'm just building towards that. I really wish I could drive a truck with all the diff gears, like a which set up you want wonderland lol. I will not be towing, for now a full truck bed of tools gear a cap etc. I eventually will have a fwc and I literally want to be geared towards that

Try and hold your truck at 2600-2700 rpm and see how you like it. That's how high it will be with 4.56's and 33's while doing around 60. If you have a 6-speed.

Ok I'm going to jump in and stop u now.unless u are running larger then a 35 u do not want a 410. 35s u want a 488 for poor gas mileage but more freeway power 456with35 is better mileage. If u have a 33 prob 456 max

Our 6-speed manuals have different final gearing than your autos. He's going to be way over geared with 4.56's and 33's. My truck is still overgeared with 35's.

I figured 456 was to much for him too. I can't believe someone told him 410. It is important not to overgear u will break shit too. Too much torque.

Right now I'm at 2500-2600 rpm when cruising around 60 mph. This is with 35's. I drove my truck for a little while with 4.56's and 33's and it sucked when you had to drive faster than 55. It is still a little overgeared with the 35's but it works out and helps pull the heavy tires easier.

Yeah it was the gentleman from East Coast gear supply that told me I had 410 gears. To be honest I didn't feel a huge difference between the stock tires in the 33 inch tires. Maybe it's because I've been on 33's for the last seven years and haven't driven a stock truck in a while. I definitely want to keep some top end speed for the longer road trips and want compensation for caring the camper as well it sounds like from your experiences for 10 years will be the way to go since I get some compensation but better top and speed I definitely don't want to be at 3200 RPMs cruising at 70

The guy from ECGS is corrrect. 4.10 will help without ruining your freeway rpms. East Coast Gear Supply are the pros, that's where I got my gears and locker from.

I've read @HomerTaco say that he wishes he had gone with 4.10 - and he wheels the piss out of his rig on 35s (to be fair, he has a crawl box too though)

OP, I understand what you're trying to do. I'm on a very close path to you. I know that 4.10 is right for me and my uses. I am pretty sure it's what you want too. There's no perfect ratio for highway and off road, so we have to land in the middle if we want to do both regularly. I wouldn't want to drive hours of highway on 4.56 gears with 33s.

Cool sounds like I have my mind made up with 410s then! Thanks for all the hearing stories etc. now onto the lockers. As we all know I have the factory deal locker is there any reason while I'm in there to replace that Walker with something else? If not what should I do about locking the front? I have had my eyes on and full duty cycle Erin B compressor for trail use and airing up tires etc. I was thinking of going to the Aarlocker route but heard mixed emotions about both E and air

I am thinking about regearing and getting front air locker for my 2nd gen 6sp mt 4.0. I'll be running 35 KO2's probably going to wait for ECGS black Friday discount but I would like to know more about the install process or the shop you choose here in SD to do the work and what I can expect when I do decide to pull the trigger.

Man you are wrong. I've run 33s on 4.56s, 35s on 4.56s and 35s on 4.88s (current). If you're towing and running 33s - 4.10s are perfect imo. Regardless of gearing, when you're towing, your mpg will be shit. As far as 'overgearing' .. That's a preference. I've wheeled the hell out of 3 different gear ratios with a combination of 5 different tire sizes. I've never had too much torque.

Those of you with the 6 speed manual, 4.56 gears, and 33 inch tires, how do you like it? I know cruising will suck but what about around town? Do you start off in 2nd gear? Cause I hate my 1st unless I'm off-road but 2nd is too high to take off in with stock 3.73s
