I am sure you have your reasons but would it not be easier and cheaper when you figure your time .

To just buy a box the size you want ??

I have a few small job boxes going on 10 years they pretty much live outside.

Just what size do you want to end up with??

So...how is this cheaper than just finding a toolbox or chest off craigslist or even buying a new one? Especially when you factor in how much your time is worth.
