If they stole them for the tag couldn't they just tin snip them off if you use security screws? Especially since these trucks only use 2 stock mounting points.

I know I know "but it makes it so it's too difficult and they move to the next easier victim"

FWIW, I drill out the mounting holes for license plates and use a 1/4" bolt with a nylon locking nut on the back. You can pick just about any type of bolt you wish, socket cap, torx, security, but even a hex head works since it requires access to the back of the bumper with a wrench. The whole bolt just spins otherwise. As another benefit is the plates are held securely and don't ever vibrate and fall off driving over washboard roads.

It's not Fort Knox, but it's about making your stuff just enough less attractive that they pass you by or give up. Now I'm not going to guarantee that frustrating them is foolproof, you may end up with them throwing a brick through your window.

And, yes, they will sometimes just clip the plate for the tags.

In Washington state tags are only allowed to display in the rear and none in the front, but they end up taking both plates including the screws.

Probably just for the tags. I always slice mine with a razor blade to avoid people wanting to take them. Or if they do, they are going to have a jigsaw puzzle to complete.

    Workin' on it....

They must have had a lot of time with your truck to take the bumper off too???? Or did they just drive away with the rest of the truck also?

Not really, just a few bolts and clipped the light wires. This was a prerunner type tube bumper so probably only weighed 40-50 lbs. The bumper was what they were after, the plate was bolted to the aluminum skid. Still pissed about that 13 years later.

Drill the holes out to 1/4" and rivet the plates on
