Not that it really mattered in the big picture, but that "modular 3 peice bumper design" didn't hold up well at all.

FWIW, I had an early Tundra and later a 2007 Tundra with a 5.7 (with OEM duals :burnrubber:) ... loved both of them and the 5.7 was quick. (Disclaimer: I do NOT drive fast, just like the power)

Tundra was too big for me and my Taco is starting to get too big for my needs.

    I've lost count....
That's the route I went (except I went with the 5.0 v8) and I am super happy with my 2016 F150 FX4 Lariat. It's definitely taken some getting used to when it comes to tight parking lots, but other than that it has been a great truck. It has loads of power, lots of interior room, and features that Toyota doesn't offer in the Tacoma (power seats, led bed box lighting, power rear sliding window, 4A mode, power locking rear diff that works even in 2wd, power tailgate lock, etc).

I'll be really curious to see what the total damages are on this one. Please keep us posted.

In my opinion, the more pics you show, the less hurt that truck looks. On this one, it really appears that the other car just kissed the rear corner and pushed the back left wheel forward a bit, bending the front of the leaf spring. No visible damage to tailgate, rear tire still good, no damage to wheel, and only 1/3 of the modular bumper taken out. I'm guessing this will be a new bedside panel, spring, taillight, bumper and maybe some frame straightening. Should fix for less than $10G.

You don't have to worry about a "salvage title." If the vehicle were to total and someone bought it at auction and put it back together, then it would be a "salvage title". Diminished value from having a dirty Carfax would be my biggest concern on this one. If you're going to have USAA subrogate the claim for you, they'll refer you to one of their preferred shops and you'll have a lifetime guarantee on the work done. The rule of thumb for a total loss is that the repair cost is ~ 75% of the vehicles value . I really don't see any way this one would make the mark.

    Tundra.

Amazing deals on them right now and you may have loyalty rebates with toy USA you should ask about.

My taco was only $25 less per month but I fell in love with the 3 pedal option and couldn't say no.

But, I've been all over the map with what I wanted so, ya, I'm the salesmans nightmare on a Saturday.

There was a post and follow ups with just a very minor rear end hit a while back . It was 1/10 the total damage you have . The other truck was totaled .

    piddly stuff
if you say the truck didn't have as much room as you'd like why not do a doulble cab instead of an access cab

I work with a guy that was born and raised in San Diego and absolutely hates California. It seems that the only people that like it are the visitors. People that live there want to leave. Except maybe Hugh Hefner lol

As for your current dilemma. I think you should hold off on any purchase until everything is worked out. You may not have a lot of choices. They may not "total" it, you can push for it but the insurance company is going to do what's best for them. Good luck, glad your OK:thumbsup:

That sucks, brand new truck and its smashed puts a tear in my eye. FYI, shop carefully if you are in the market for a full size truck. I just recently traded out a 2014 Silverado POS for my Tacoma and I will never go back to Domestics. My Silverado was is the shop every 3 weeks. Drive line vibrations, crunch in the driver's side going over bumps, harsh shifts 2 to 3rd, leak in the cab and intermittent misfiring. All of these problems not fixed except the leak. If you are buying a domestic go to their forums and read before buying. This forum convinced me that Tacoma was a better choice. Gave up some room and towing ability for better off-road capability, reliability, resale value and fuel mileage. I might add that I took a beating on the trade in as well to get my Tacoma.

    ...^^^... Nice looking truck .. if I bought a F-150 .. your truck would be my choice .. like the Ford 5.0 V8 over the 3.5 EcoBoost-Turbo.

If this guy can't see the positives to living in San Diego he is either a polar bear or a curmudgeon. This state is freaking fantastic and is priced accordingly, unfortunately.

After I retired I had a friend hire me for a nine month period working on the base in San Diego. Pay was great BUT I froze everyday. Had to wear a damn hoodie to stay warm...and traffic! Screw that...give me the south any day of the week!

Hear eco boost engines have problems at like 35k miles. Tons of videos on youtube about intake manifolds clogged, rockers breaking, etc. OP. You say the inside was small? Have you looked into the double cabs? I was lucky with my purchase and got it for around 31800 out the door. What about the ram Eco Diesel? Those have problems too. You know the old saying, " They don't make them like they use too!" True fact. Glad your ok and thanks for serving!

I was on a f150 forum reading about the problems that they have, someone quoted" What do you expect, it's not a Toyota".

I hate to say it but it probably we be totaled. People have minor fender benders and you would look at the truck and see the bumper pushed in, totaled. It's crazy but it was built to absorb the impact to keep you safe, not the vehicle. Buy it back from the insurance company and Part it out =P
