    AZ tags are pre-razor-bladed.
That being said... were I a license plate thief I'd just carry one of those security torx drivers. They're cheap and common enough to buy the driver at home depot.

If you want to be a pain to a thief, either carriage bolts, rivets, or some sort of REALLY uncommon internal type which can't be turned with a flat screwdriver (Yes, you can turn a security torx with a flat screwdriver). Something like a tri-wing.

Or, get one-way screws with loctite.

Mine were stolen a couple years ago. It sucked, I had to buy new tabs as well as new plates ($280 down the drain). I feel your pain.

Plate theft is a lot more common than you guys think

Steal a car, steal a plate...plate usually takes people longer to realize is missing and it gives the car thieves a couple extra days to drive without it popping hot when the plates are run

The good news is that the plates are property of the state and you shouldn't be out any money...sucks you lose your vanity late OP but until they're recovered the DMV won't reissue the same plate

The DMV charged you for new plates after yours were stolen? That's all sorts of messed up.

Yep. The lady told me I was lucky, as they were just a few months from being up. If they were just a month old I would have been more pissed.

They use to steal the date stickers so often in Tx that with the exception of trailers the state went to a windshield sticker.
