I know this isn't truck related but I'm sure some of you tech guys can probably school me on this.

I have one of those router/modem combo do-hickys and it's struggling lately. Its probably about 2.5 years old.
Its a Netgear C3700, N600 wifi cable modem router. DOCSIS 3.0, 8 DS and 4 US. 2.4GHz and 5 GHz.

Any recommendations on how to make this thing better or what to get in replacement of it?

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
First question: you say struggling lately, how so?

All true statements, the problem with wifi is really that it's half-duplex meaning you can only send OR receive data at any time. A normal ethernet connection is full duplex allowing constant back and forth.

Wifi is made that much worse by the fact it's fully sensitive to the environment for several reasons.

Exactly. My wifi is mainly for my Playstation (which is a Netflix box, let's be real... at least until I build my NUC or something similar as a direct-TV driver) and cell phones. Server runs on dual link-aggregated ports with 2Gbps up/down and my desktop gets a single port for himself.

It's gotten slower when working on a computer via wifi (long load times for simple webpages), streaming netflix in HD will occasionally drop down to SD and be get fuzzy and choppy, it will drop phones off the wifi for no reason at all.
This is all a foreign language to me so please ask whatever questions you need to know.

@dtaco06 yeah I've come to learn these 2 in 1 things aren't the way to go.

    - I've lost the install CD and instructions that came with it.

    Stuff n' Thangs
My iPhone6 keeps getting kicked off the wifi. It doesn't have any problems anywhere else though. (The laptop stays on the wifi just fine tho)
Did some research on Apple & did what they said; I did a network reset on my phone, re-entered the info and then it still kicks me off after like 15mins on the wifi. I at like 90% data usage. Fml
We were thinking the router may need some updating. But maybe it's my phones hardware....?

The quick and dirty fix is to just reboot the modem of course, and I'm betting you've tried that. Either of you can download an app to your phone called Wifi analyzer, using that tool there's a few interesting ways you can see congestion in your area.

I'd also recommend getting into the router and switching on (or off, depending on current settings) the 5Ghz option. I've noticed 5Ghz is a bit more sensitive to dropping clients. If it's not on yet enable 5Ghz and try it for a bit, that frequency may be a bit less congested in your area. You can also make note of any configuration in the router (assuming anything beyond the wifi SSID/password is changed) and you can factory reset it.

Definitely! I'm also curious to see the results from a wifi client to http://speakeasy.net/speedtest so go ahead and run that (they have an application specific for phones you can run on or use your laptop). Mike I'll send you my cell number so you can hit me up easier rather than us hijacking the thread further
