Northwest college in Powell took a 2.9 million dollar budget cut. Huge for a small two year school. 16 early retirements and 2 programs dropped.

Budget for my weed and pest job got slashed. No rasies for us returners this year.

All due to coal and energy losses.

    Kinda sucks.

Casper has been hit pretty hard too. Unemployment is at like 7.5% in Natrona county. The vibe in this town is pretty depressing lately.

I figured it was pretty much state wide. I'm sure things will bounce back, but I've seen this happen before for years on end. Not good times!

I think if Hillary gets elected Wyoming will get a lot worse. I hope something changes because I really don't want to have to look for a job outside of Wyoming.

I'm with you on that one. I'll always have business at the shop, but it may be the difference in having 1 extra tech instead of 2, which is a bummer because both of them have families and bills, etc.

I actually just had a long time customer come in. He's been retired from UW for 2 years and is living in FL, but still has a small farm in Bloomington. They called him in to give them an idea how to fix their budget, with the cuts etc. He said he told them bluntly, "You need to extirpate faculty, particularly the ones making $200,000/year. They make what 4 people can make and actually do 'something' for the university. Or, hire 2 and save the rest to rebuild the budget". This would apply to faculty with tenure that do nothing, but dictate their work to assistants etc. Basically, stop firing the worker bees, and let go of the old queens that do nothing for the local economy, most of which don't spend a dime in Wyoming. It's a real pickle. Hopefully they'll listen.

I'd be interested to hear what happens. I graduated from the mechanical engineering department at UW in 2014, things were starting to get a little shaky right before I finished up my degree so I bet its a disaster now. Looks like the head of the M.E. department has already changed since I left.

They cut my state funded combat veteran tuition waiver (~$1500 hit for me every semester) at UW for a week. Then sent out an email saying that they will cover the fall semester and that's it. The budget cuts are going to make it difficult for me to secure employment in Wyoming when I graduate in May. I also just got word that they are low on funds at the federal level and can only pay me through July right now. They are trying to get more funding to at least get me through august.

There's going to be a lot of people packing up and heading out. Or south and join the growing THC economy in CO....and you don't need wells to get that oil!

@SconnieHailer @BossFoss, you guys still planning on heading this way this weekend and if so do you want to make it more wheeling centric or fishing centric? Still haven't figured out how to send PM's on mobile.

Criminy, is it this weekend already? Where does the time go? I may be able to make a day trip. I have a few things to get done so I won't be able to stay the whole time. I'll txt Marc and see what he is thinking.

Thanks, guess I didn't scroll down far enough. I seem to recall being able to do it on PC. Is it just me or is each generation of IPhone glitch ire and less stable?

So at my main job. I've been deemed the official drone pilot  get to fly a phantom 3 pro a lot. Pretty fun. Hope to get an inspire at some point.
