I test drove a 2013 Limited on the weekend. It is black with a topper. Very nice truck. It has 69000 km (43000 mi) on the OD. All looks very good except the tires are worn too much. They are asking $34,995 cdn. I'm not sure if the limited adds that much value. What do you guys think?

The Limited gets you some ugly chrome mirrors and faux leather heated seats, 18 inch wheels (a liability if you off-road IMO), homelink mirror and the JBL stereo. Personally the heated seats are the only part of the package that appeal to me.

What are comparable SR5s or other trim levels going for in your area? Hard to tell without that comparison.

An SR5 would go for around $30,000 Cdn

So that's $5K CDN or about $4K USD for 18 inch wheels; leather/heat; premium sound; and Homelink mirror. And some chrome bits. If you wanted every one of those options you could probably outfit an SR5 for less than that. But there is time/effort involved - you pay for convenience.

The topper probably adds some value as well - I understand those are crazy expensive up in your neck of the woods. So perhaps $35K CDN is a reasonable starting point for negotiation.

The topper is a Leer and likely adds about $2000. I was thinking to lower profile tires might give me better fuel economy.
I would as for new rubber for sure. They are calling them 65%. I am thinking they more like 45%. They are offering warranty up to 120000 km also.

Do you do any offroading, or does extra chrome accenting both you? If so you may want to pass. You may want to find a TRD sport premium package which has the heated leather seats, gentex mirror etc but everything is colour matched and 17" alloy wheels.

I guess it depends on what you like... if you like the Tacoma limited then that may be a consideration.

Did the Limited come with the E-Locker? That might be a consideration if you want the truck for off-road use.

If you're not looking for off-road capability I'd just ignore that. An SR5, Sport, or Limited are basically the same except for bells & whistles (decorations mostly). SR5 = 16" wheels, Sport = 17" wheels, and Limited = 18" wheels. Small wheel and big tire is good for off-road and cushion. Big wheels and small tires is good for eye candy.

I'm not sure the current US/CND currency conversion but Tacomas hold their resale REALLY well. A new Leer would cost you $2,000 but they sell on Craigslist and such for $800-900. So don't factor in the new price when you negotiate with the dealer.

I think I paid $31k (US) for my SR5 4x4 Long Bed brand new in 2015.

Oh - don't let them sell you a truck without brand new tires. :) And don't let them put Dunflops on it. Get real tires.

I would go with an SR5 and use the money you save too personalize it the way you want it.

Are they they OE tires? Doesn't matter then, they are overdue for replacement based on the age of the rubber anyway. Key is 'how' they are worn. If evenly, you have an indicator that the alignment has been kept in at least fair order. But, I'd be negotiating the price down based on needing tires.

You'll up your effective gear ratio if you're not careful. If you want to off road, smaller wheel, more sidewall is better. That can offer a better road ride too. Use the tire size calculator here https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc to figure out what combo would retain your OE gearing and speedo/odo accuracy.

Thanks guys. An SR5 is all I need as long as it has the tow package
    Double cab and long box.

I bought a new limited dclb in march of 2015 brand new and it was 36,200 without tax. That is a lot for a 13 with 69k and needs tires.
I am an old guy and don't go off road so the guys a right you might look at a new truck and you will have a warranty and financing is low.
When you get it post us a photo

I'm not an "off-roader" however I drive across fields to the bush to cut wood and the same goes for deer hunting.
Even though I'm not a young fellow (52) anymore, getting mud on the tires still puts a gin on my face.

So I bought myself a truck!
2013 DCLB Limited. Black with topper. I had them add side steps and corrosion prevention devise. 69,000 km (45,000 mi) I pick it up on Monday. I insisted on new tires my choice.

Thanks guys. The tires I like are Toyo Open country ATs
I'll have to admit I'm a little excited to get into a Taco again.
I have to get a brake controller installed now. I'll try to post a picture when I get the truck.

Congrats on the truck. As long as you're happy with the purchase, doesn't matter how much you pay.

Nice. Got the same truck but in MGM. Blacked out some of the chrome but the JBL/nav and softex/heated seats are nice.
