hi. Got a quick question for y'all. I have a 3rd gen with the oem trailer package. I need a locking hitch pin but now realize there's a whole bunch of em with different measurements. I believe the oem hitch that comes with the trailer package is a class 4 and the diameter of the pin I'm looking for is 5/8". Please correct me if I'm wrong. This truck is new to me and so is anything hitch related. The reason I need one is because I parallel park 80% of the time at my work place. Yesterday I come out and there was a Honda Accord parked right under my hitch. He was literally under my hitch receiver. Now I do realize I got lucky this time but if that car was a bit taller, I would have taken some damage to my bumper. So I wanna install a beaver step on my hitch to serve as extra protection for these damn crazy drivers and parallel parking maniacs. It would be awesome to use as a step as well.

So if u guys can verify class iv and 5/8", I'd greatly appreciate it. And do u guys recommend any good locking hitch pin?

Yes I searched. Didn't find anything 3rd gen related. Thanks!

I also know that TW loves pictures so I ran up to my office to try and grab my phone, come back a few mins later and the car was gone.... So no pictures this time around. But I will share one if my beaver step has a victim

    SpareBumper is better.

Ive seen a whole bunch of stuff that would serve my purpose but im trying to keep my cost down as much as I can. Im still saving up to get my revolver x2 so I dont want to deplete my tonneau funds especially with the sparebumper being $200ish. Also im in the Bay Area, CA. People here will steal anything by any means. So really, I wont be too heart broken if my beaver tail disappears. The other fancy bump stop/ hitch steps I looked at are way over $100. Ill take more of a hit on my wallet if those go missing on me. But yes, I agree 100%, the SpareBumper is a way better option for others who may be looking at the same problems im facing.

I have a new steel rear bumper in my garage to be installed Friday, just for that very reason.

If ever my front and/ or rear bumper gets damaged, im definitely gonna put my money towards a tougher steel bumper. cheaper going that route than it would be to go back to OEM i think.

Yes it's 5/8". I have a locking pin like the one you picture above. It fit fine on my older Taco and 4Runner but it is not long enough for my '16. The receiver is double walled so that extra 1/4" on each side(1/2" total) prevents enough of the pin from sticking through that I can't get the lock on. Must find longer shaft!(TWSS)

Lol. Yea I read that elsewhere about it being double walled which I guess is why they stated to search for class 4 instead of class 3.

Exactly that.. someone brushed my rear bumper so instead of paying $1K to have in painted and re-set. I bought a new steel bumper. Next a-hole that wants to ding me, have at it. I went that rout instead of one of those shin busters that I would probably end up damaging someones bumper instead of protecting mine. That and I'd probably hit my shin enough times to want thro that thing across the street.

Lol. Yup. And if it gets scratched, easy to rattle can and it won't even look too bad. That's what I did with my rhino horn bumper on my jeep. Lol

Funny story but since the shin buster issue is often bought up when the discussion is about hitch mounted items, I was in my jeep stopped at a 4 way behind the crosswalk. A lady crosses the street eyes fixated on her cellphone. I thought " this girl is gonna get hit or trip over a curb". A couple of seconds later, "DING!". She walks right into my rhino horn. hahaha. after she picked up her phone off the ground, she looked up at me and was laughing. Im sure it was uncontrollable laughter due to embarassment, I mean there was about 15 other people that witnessed it while they were also crossing the street. haha. oh how i wish i had a dash cam! This bumper was a people buster. lol

Have the same smittybilt step/guard, using a master locking pin picked up from autozone. Long enough as others I tried first did not fit.

I can check my local autozone. if u dont mind, do u remember what it cost you? Id rather get locally for reasons of easier return and/or exhange. I would only order if the savings is worth it.

Thanks! I think ill go that route. I hate shipping back returns. It takes longer to get your money back, and most of the itme you lose money because you have to pay for return shipping.

Went to Harbor Freight over the weekend...sucked. I tried all the different locking pins and none were long enough to lock. Had to return the ones I bought. Getting one from AutoZone today.
