Looks awesome. Out of curiosity, why didnt you use paint if you were going to use clear coat? Was it because of less prep on the grill when you sprayed the dip?

Jane doe, such an awesome album!!

The rustoleum is a dip rip-off. It's not paint. They call it flexidip. They didn't have the plasti dip clear in the depot so I used plasti black with the flexi clear. Not a bad combo imo. I think for guys who want more shine it's a good combo.

I don't think it was the flexidip. I think they have two kinds. I don't see why that wouldn't work though

so we dipped the grill this weekend, came out great (5 coats dip, 2 coats clear). First time we have "ever" used this product. I like how the texture matches the plastic on the front (yes I change out my painted Sport bumper cap for an OffRoad). Removing the grill was very easy thanks to all the tips and video on this thread, we didn't break any clips. The Rustoleum clear product was fine, didn't have any issues with applying it and I didn't think it was too shiny at all.
My concern will be how it holds up. I keep my truck very clean, I will be very careful but I'm concerned with the constant rubbing on it if it will hold up. And, of course rocks. It's not exactly an easy product to try to touch up. Of course the beauty of this product as it can be easily removed.
I've seen lots of pictures of dipped grills but having done it and seeing how it looks in person on my own truck it just looks so much better...... Don't understand why Toyota put chrome grills on these trucks, the black just looks amazing.
This isn't a great picture since I took it in our shop. We appreciate the people on here that spent the time to post these helpful tips from removing the grill to applying the product, it made this mod very easy.

I also dipped my grille this weekend, I left my bezel chrome for a little more OEM look- but may dip or paint it white and my emblem white in the future. If I do that I'll also dip my side emblems black.

1 light coat of black followed by 3 heavy coats of black and 2 heavy coats of glossifier. I used a can and a half of black and half a can of glossifier. It matches all the rest of the black on the truck pretty well.image.jpg

I dipped my grill this weekend as well. I love the product and how easy it was to do. Thanks to this forum for all the advice and how to remove the grill.

First time ever using dip. Weather forecast showed 0% chance of rain. Did first coat, low and behold, drizzle. Got'er done though. Bumper next!

I did mine the same style. Leaving the chrome trim makes the grill seem not so large. Gives it a nice contrast.

Are there any holes behind the Tacoma badges on the doors when removed?

Just curious how many people left the grill on versus removing it for dipping??

Pop-n-lock tailgate. New radio knobs. Rear step.
I did my side emblems yesterday so they would match the fender flares (first ever use of the dip). This stuff is fun to use! I can see it becoming a problem. Must...Resist...Dip.

It's super easy to take off. You would spend way too much time prepping leaving it on. Also, you can't fully paint the edges of the outer trim wich can cause peeling later.

I left mine on. Cleaned it real well with windex, then let it sit in the sun to make sure it was bone dry before I sprayed. I taped around the grill with 2" or so of blue tape, stuffed some newspaper behind the grill (make sure it isn't touching the backside of the grill) to keep overspray from hitting the radiator and went at it. Make sure to hit the grill from all different angles.

If you are not confident in your accuracy with the spraying, you may wanna paper-and-mask larger areas around the grill. The entire process took me about 30 minutes through the first coat then I let it dry and repeated till I emptied what was in the can. Was probably 5-6 coats after the initial misting.
