lots of talk about the little items that will obviously get worked out as more hit the road (already nearly 150k alone); but has anyone posted or heard of a blown engine -- with pics, details, conditions from an active member?

    ???

There is a thread somewhere from a guy that has seen a couple come through the dealership that his wife works at with some sort of failure. Search for it.

At this stage of production, it is really hard to tell how the longterm reliability of the 3.5 L will be. If there are any blown engines, they are probably flukes and it happens to every automaker but very rare in today's automotive world. I wouldn't worry about it, the engine has been tested in Lexus and has held up very well...even if the low-end torque sucks and it's a car motor. ;)

    agreed.

there's been noise on little items and some not so big, but i have faith in this model and my guess is there's VERY few engine issues when one dissects through the bs.

Sometimes you guys scare me. The logic used is so illogical it isnt funny. How long has lexus used the 3.5l d4s engine in how many vehicles?(is, es, gs, rx, nx, idk if hybrid big cars are same 3.5) They are still rated at the top by jd power. Sleep easy friends

agreed but i don't think an RXh or ES350 tows up to 6800 lbs or really goes to the arctic circle or death valley much.

While this may be true, it's also more common for people to neglect regular service on those soccer-mom SUV/crossovers. I'm guessing a lot of those get 15k+ mile oil changes.

Does it though? Or does the tacomas inherent added weight, aero, drivetrain etc make it drive different. At the end of the day, an engine is just doing work. I have no doubt the vehicles perform differently, but that should be obvious.
