Anyone know if this can be done or is available through dealers ??? I realize this may entail a lot of work, but can it be a relatively simple mod worth doing or just run away from the idea entirely ???

Yes it can be done...Thru the dealer is a $$$$$$$$$ way to do it. Getting the parts from the Offroad package means that you'll have to get an entire rear axle.

Look at ARB Air Lockers and On-Board Air systems. You'll lose the LSD in the rear but that's not a big deal.
Detriot also has some options I think...
    As far

Adding a "locker"can be easy if you're willing to spend some $$$ or as difficult as he!!....
    1) I was offered a Toyota e-locker at a very good price BUT I would have to re-fab my current housing, purchase the wire kit plus a switch
    2) find a used rear with a locker in it,still need the wiring/switch combo
    3) by a new 3rd for your current rear with a locker installed .now all you have to do is install PLUS the wiring
    4) pay someone to do any of the above:)

    5) I will be doing the ARB when $$ allows, just upgrading the lines to stainless and getting the larger compressor...

Good luck with your decision and take your time, once you have one you will just :):)......;)

I went with the ARB in there rear of my trd sport, I spent a good $1500 but if your goin to wheel your truck its well worth it, You goin to spend alot more goin with the dealer.

    Soon....
    Quick question:
Do ALL TRD Sport trucks have an LSD? I was driving over a patch of ice the other day and it sure didn't feel like I had any help back there...

Yes They do- The LSD sticker is the thing to look for (or in your paperwork or go to a dealer and have them look up your VIN number)

As far as "not having any help back there" An LSD isn't a magic device that makes you able to drive over anything slick or low-traction without noticing it. If both your rear tires were on the ice- Totally possible that you negated the benefits of having the LSD.

5100 set to max, pending LSD and TRD CAI
Its probably cheaper to sell the sports and get an off road with a locker already on it.

    It's just an axle swap.

Uhhh...What?? It's like 1500 to get a locker and OBA set up. Selling a truck/buying another doesn't make sense to get a locker...

I found and 18 TRD OR Complete Rear axle for $800. Truck had an engine fire. An axle swap and harness/ switch? For a project, maybe invest in a regear too?
