You def take multiple flights to get there. I would assume more than 18 hours flight time though.

I flew close to 30 hours flight time to get to South Africa. That was a pain.

Nice... I lived in Asheville for 2 years (2008-2010) and loved every minute of it. The wife and I moved to Yadkinville (Winston-Salem area) for work, but have discussed buying a vacation cabin around the Asheville or Lake James area. It will probably be our retirement destination as well.

From the west coast I took a 16 hour nonstop flight from LA to Dubai and then a 4 hour from there to Maldives. The country is off the western tip of India.

Ugh. F that. I'd love to go to the Maldives someday, they're gorgeous. But I had a hard enough time with the 5 hour flight to Seattle.

Looking at possible doing a solo trip in the next week or two. Any one have recommendations? This would be my first solo trip. Somewhere within 5hrs of Los Angeles would be nice. I was thinking maybe Bishop or somewhere in the sequoia's.

I was out on a volunteer trip in the Weminuche Wilderness this week. Tried out the new 2lb North Face tent, got in a 14'er climb, then climbed most of it again to work on the rescue of a man with a broken ankle/lower leg. Cold night out, but a good outcome

Anywhere in the Sierras will be an amazing journey. Lots of trails going into them from Bishop, Independence, etc. off of the 395. Head around to Mammoth and your options open even further. Check those areas for permits though, as many have daily quotas that require getting permits well in advance. Lots of people don't show up on their trail date though, and you can get walk-ins.

I got good news today. My Revelation quilt is in final production and will ship out at the end of this week! Just in time for the Sierras.

Thanks. I think since it is my first solo trip ever I am going to settle with something familiar and try to stretch it out a little further. Will be doing Blue Lake and Midnight Lake. Short 2N/3D trip. I have been to blue but have not been to Midnight.

Nice. A 2 nighter is perfect practice for a first solo trip. Gives you that second night to work out some of the bugs from night 1.

Onion Valley to Whitney Portal. Spending the last 2 days of the trip after the hike in Mammoth to do some fishing.

Nice! I was just down in bishop and Big Pine this weekend. Very cool nights and extremely windy days, especially at higher elevations. I'd guess sustained winds at at least 25.
    Awaiting photos!

Headed out during the first week of August. Pics will definitely be plenty. Hoping for a break in the wind, but maybe back behind the first ridge will have less than down in the valley.

Anyone have any Prime day buys? There was some good stuff actually.

Got some Salomon XA 3D Pros for $71, and some NB MT610V5s for $40 that I will probably use as my River shoes in Zion. Also a Kelty Noah's Tarp on a lightning deal yesterday.

No such place as a bug free zone! Best you can do is reduce the bugs per cubic meter count.:stirthepot:
