What are you guys storing your gear or food in when going on long trips? I keep all perishable items in my Yeti Tundra 65 but what about other gear or food that doesn't need to be kept cold? Any certain kinds of storage boxes?

Action packers for me. I've seen others use plastic totes from Fred Meyer or something

I also cook and use my action packers as seats if I need to. Heavy duty plastic

I use these Plano storage containers. I have 3 of them and they fit nicely in the bed of my 1st gen. Cheaper than most other heavy duty storage boxes too. Only downside is they are not waterproof. But unless you drop these in a river or something they won't get water inside of them.

I can attest to how tough they are as well. Left my tailgate down after getting something out of the bed of the truck. Went up a steep hill and two of them fell out the back. One of them was full of tools like jack stands, etc. Didn't open and not one crack in either of them.

For the guys in B.C. West Coast Canada or Vancouver Island. The new RTT's are looking pretty good. The prototype all aluminum Tacoma rack is as solid as it gets. Install services available out in Chilliwack.

Our fave is the three man with the extension, annex and included pic floor. You could put a couple of cots down there and easily accommodate two adults or a brood of little ones. The fox-wing awning attached to our prototype teardrop trailer was a big hit as well as the showers came and went all day while we displayed at a local four wheel drive gathering. It comes with drop sides for all SIX sides ! We're just about to place one more order for the season so if you are interested in discounted RTT's right here in Canada shoot me a message here or at www.O-SPEC.COM.image.jpg

Hey everyone. I rarely see pics in this thread that show people leveling out their truck. I can't stand to sleep at an angle, and even 1 or 2 degrees off drives me crazy. I carry six lengths of 2x6 lumber to get it level. Am I the only one?

I usually dig a hole or drive on a rock to level it out.

A rock or chunk of firewood is usually enough to level things out for me.

I carry that as well. I also have a couple pieces of 4x4 and 6x6 for jack stands if needed in a pinch.

The Action Packers are popular and from what I've seen they look good enough for most. Plano cases are a waste of money in my opinion - crappy products. Personally, I've got some Pelican-Hardigg cases that work perfect for tools, gear, food, etc... They arn't cheap but if you look hard enough you can find some at good military surplus suppliers... If you were in AZ I could probably steer you in a good direction. The one on the left side in the picture below is especially awesome because it had 6 handles as opposed to 2.

Just curious, but why do you not like the Plano cases?

Plano's product quality is notoriously bad. I've owned a couple of their gun cases and another case similar in size to the action packers... All of them had broken clasps, cracks in the plastic, etc, within a year of normal use.

Got it. I've never had any of their products except for the cases I linked. Only going on 3 months of owning them, but so far so good. Hopefully they don't begin to fail over the next year like you unfortunately experienced.
